Soultions for Cold Feet

I'm curious what others have found as the best solution to keeping your feet warm.  I have toe covers and wear some winter socks but that is not warm enough for temps below 50 for me.  What works best for you? Full winter shoes covers? Winter shoes?  A particular winter sock?

Thanks.

Pedal harder, if you're about to throw up, then you won't be worried about how cold your feet are...

Gore Windstopper Shoe covers with two pairs of Nike Drifit summer socks in my shoes.  The major problem is wind coming in through mesh, not actual cold temps.  I have been fine in these down to 10-15 degrees.  Cool

By nature I have cold feet so if this works for me, it should work for anyone.  I wear Defeet Woolie Boolie socks + regular cycling shoes + Pearl Izumi barrier full shoe covers.  I also wear Under Armor cold gear tights.  I make sure the tights cover the back half of my foot.  Basically I don't pull them over my foot all the way.  I pull the socks over the tights so there is a substantial overlap.  That's it.  Nothing fancy.  Feet stay mostly warm.

Shoe covers and wool socks.  Honestly for me even on my road bike toe covers and wool socks work all the way down to 35 degrees.  If its colder than that I just don't ride.... lol

Same as the others: Shoe covers and quality wool socks usually do the trick.  Also, I'll stick one of these to the bottom of my socks if the temps are really frigid...

I duct tape over the toe box on the shoes in the winter. Keeps the cold air from coming into the vents in the shoe. Wool socks and riding hard keep the rest of the foot warm. Try not to wear too many layers over your feet. Too many layers and over tight shoes can actually restrict blood flow and make the foot colder.

Thick Defeet Woolie Boolies and duct tape should do the trick. Cheaper than toe covers. This works for me down to freezing. Any colder than that my hands and toes freeze over and I cant feel them so it doesnt matter.

Woolie bullies on feet then a cut off corner of a plastic shipping bag over socks.  Put shoes on and ride.  Good for temps down to 30.... and no cost....

Who cares about feet.  I just want to be able to feel my fingers so I can still use my brakes when needed.  How do you fix that?  And don't say pedal harder because the harder I pedal the faster I go and the worse it gets!

Gloves.  I have two pair for cold weather.  One I wear done to 50 F

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

One I wear down to 40 F or if its windy

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

And then I wear both below that.  Sunday morning it was 24 F and my hands were fine.

I have these and they are the bee's knees.  Best purchase I've made this winter.

Flat pedals and shoes.

Or you can wear 2 pairs of socks with a plastic grocery bag between each pair of socks.  Trim off the excess grocery bag.  Works very well.

Needs to be windproof... my full finger gloves are good down to 40~ degrees on MTB without issue but on the road b/c the wind I'm done in 5 minutes.  Throwing windproof liner or over liner makes a huge difference.

A lot of people are talking about down to 40 degrees... I want to know what work down to and past 32 degrees as my wool socks with regular socks under *start* getting cold.

my approach works to 30 degrees.  With shoes you need to be careful with layering.  Having too many socks on can make things worse. For one, your shoes become too tight and cut off circulation.  For too, your feet could sweat and then you get colder.  You want to layer on the outside of your shoe.  Full shoe covers work best for me.

+1 on the plastic shopping bag for feet wind protection.  Along w/some good wool socks and perhaps another layer of biking socks, my feet usually stay warm enough to ride in the upper 20's (degrees).

For hands, I've just resorted to using a pair of skiing gloves if I needed wind protection.  They are bulky, but work perfectly fine for me.  I can even throw on a pair of liners underneath them for added warmth.  I imagine a pair of neoprene gloves (like used for wet suits) would provide some good wind protection too.
