Sherman Trail status report (1/29 @ 3:30)

Main loop is in excellent shape all things considered. It only started to get wet towards the end after the lake loop intersection.

Roller coaster is wet in the usual spots, but overall not as bad as I would have expected. I've seen it worse. Not super muddy, just wet. Some standing water. Watch out for that very steep downhill chute that goes left at the base just before the zigzagging climb, the WHOLE chute is consistency of peanut butter. I had a 2 wheel slide going... Pucker factor high.

Lake is good where its dry, but the few wet spots are VERY wet. I had to walk a few sections to avoid doing further damage. I cleared a few drains which drained some standing water that was about 6" deep and as wide as the trail in one spot. Leveled the ruts as best as I could without a shovel.

There is a widow maker tree on the main loop. It can be seen from the fire road, about 40 feet into the trail, its just before that wooden camel hump structure on the opposite side of the fire road. Will require a chainsaw and/ or a few people to move.

RRT is in great shape.  Bikes were about as clean as they get this time of year.

Steve's been working hard to keep it in good shape.  Thanks Steve!

The state park still has snow in the woods and the trails are very wet. It will probably be a few more days before it will be dry enough to open. I blew a little over half of Fox Loop today and hope to finish latter this week. Then I'll clear the drains and put in a culvert on Laurel which should do it for me.

Almost finished blowing Fox Loop this afternoon, got about 200 yards to go. There were a few riders taking a big chance today riding closed trails at the park. Some parts were real dry and then some area were pretty wet yet. Now it's supposed to rain tomorrow.

The state park will open at 5pm. I finished the Fox loop today and walked Norwood Creek and that side of Hawk. Lots of small limbs on the trails. Please report any trees on the trails to the rangers. I will try to get them cleared. I'm taking vacation starting Sunday thru Friday.

I rode Monbo this afternoon and there is a tree down at #19. John said there is a tree down on Laurel. I'm going to Snowshoe tomorrow morning and will stop by the park and clear those trees.

Hey Mike,
Good to see you out there yesterday! Yes there is a good sized tree down but it is not a danger but bunny hopping is not an option  Shocked
