Hey my names Kane. I just moved here from PA. I ride downhill on a Turner DHR, absolutely love the bike. Just looking for some people to ride with and some good downhill trails around here. Not sure where any would be because this area is missing something vital that PA has (mountains lol).

Bailey is a lot of fun as is Beech in the summer. Both are roughly a 3 hour drive give or take a little bit.

Do you have a trail bike? Honestly you are going to run out of things and places to ride pretty quick without one around here. If it were me and I only had one bike living in Charlotte I would look into a 160-170mm ride so you can hit up everything a little easier.

Pisgah can be rowdy but I wouldn't want to do an all day pedal out there on a DHR.

Also Wilson's Creek is something you may want to look into. There are some shuttleable things out there that can be fun.

I ride a little bit of everything so shoot me a message if you want some info or to ride.

I ride a 2007 Kona Stab Supreme on the DH trails, but would not want to do too much pedaling. I ride a Marin Wildcat Trail DH bike on the trails around here. It's set up 3x9 so it is real good for trails and only weighs around 40 lbs. I tried to ride NM one day on the Kona and thought I was going to die. I think an all mountain bike would work fine for Pisgah.

As far as legit DH goes...

You have Bailey, Beech, Windrock, and Snowshoe. Those are the closest shuttle serviced or lift serviced trails.

Pisgah, which includes Wilson Creek, South Ranger District, Old Fort etc. has alot of shuttle-able trails and hundreds of miles of trail open to bikes.

I 2nd MtbMan's point on picking up a trail bike. You can ride a dual crown rig anywhere, its just easier and more fun on a trail bike. Maybe pick up a mid-travel rig or a rowdy hardtail that can serve double duty on the mellower Charlotte trails but is capable of handling the gnar gnar in the mountains.

WELCOME Kane!!!
Where from in PA?  I grew up in the mountains of western PA (Johnstown) and moved here a few days before I turned 20.  That was almost 26 years ago and there is not one regret for doing it.  Charlotte might not have mountains, but we are blessed with some incredible riding opportunities for a large metro area.  Plus some of the best riding on the east coast is only 2-4 hours drive away if you're looking to ride in the mountains.

Again, welcome to Charlotte and to our mountain bike community.

Welcome to town Kane!  Where exactly did you move too in the area?  I do a lot of lift accessed riding at Beech Mountain Resort in the Summer.  They have some fun trail and you can get in tons of runs based on the non existent lift lines.  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
