Going to check it out tomorrow for the first time. I know it is bi-directional but what is the preferred line from the kiosk?

I prefer counter clockwise.  Be sure to take Sugar Loop.

+ 1 on CCW direction.  It offers the most flow imho.

My favorite & regular ride is (from the kiosk by the ball-fields) to go down School West. At the bottom, left under the bridge and then do the Prairie Loop CCW, returning back under the bridge. Then straight passed School West & School West to do Sugar CCW. Right at the top, and back down School East. Left at the bottom, then all the way back to Prairie again, going CW this time. Then finish by going back up School West to the kiosk. That gives you everything there is bi-directionally except Sugar/School East CW.

That gives you some nice flow and "gravity assist" to warm up at the start; well spaced climbs / recoveries in the middle; and a nice, sustained climb out to the finish.

There is no preferred direction.  They are both good.  I recommend doing both.

Thank you for the suggestions. Was riding around and thought wow great flow and no elevation to speak of till I did sugar ccw at the end of my ride! Great trail though. Only thing missing is technical parts

One of my favorites unfortunately adds School East twice.

From the complex:
Out School West
Prairie CCW
Back School East
Sugar CCW
Back School East again back up to the complex

To me, Sugar CW is a cardio buster. It feels like I'm climbing the entire way even though it's minor elevation change overall.

Here is a route I do often:

From the complex:
Down School loop east
CW up Sugar
CW Down School west
Prairie loop CW
CCW up School west
CCW down Sugar
CCW Prairie
UP School east

This will hit everything in the system twice without really hitting anything in the same direction . It will be a bit over 20 miles.

This is one of my preferred routes out there also!

I was out there Sunday and although certain parts were still wet, it's in great shape.

They were redoing a small section of the trail where you connect from the electrical station and shoot over towards Sugar (if going clockwise).  Pardon my description if that is unclear.  It avoids the sharp left turn and steep hill right above the electrical station.

The only negative I saw was that portions of the trail had been widened since my last ride out there.

Overall, it's still one of my favorites in the area.  Especially for people in the Ballantyne area that want to avoid rush hour traffic to/from trails.

How much foot traffic do you typically have to deal with when riding there, particularly on weekends?  As far as I understand it's a shared use trail like WWC is.

I have been there twice now and haven't had much to speak of. When I have I have never had to speak up they were already off the trail for me. Nice break from the Charlotte trails.

You're more likely to encounter walkers/hikers on the Prairie Loop and School West. Occasionally, you'll find a few on School East or Sugar, but they're less walk-friendly.

As you might expect, weekends are more popular than weekdays, and you're likely to see even more as we enter the spring and warmer weather that comes with it.

I've never had an issue or any negative reaction. But I can't say what it might be if you're flying around with a full face-shield yelling STRAVA!! at the top of your lungs.

They have trails for different activities there. There are some designated as hikers only, so many of the walkers go there. You will see some trail runners and hikers from time to time on the trails open to bikes, but its not bad.

I usually pass 2-5 bikers and even fewer hikers.
