Here we go again. When do we start building? I say, when do we maintain? If you build, someone has to maintain. Just a thought.

trust me, the trail is already laid out, we just have to do some little adjustments here and there and get others more involved in certain areas of it. I see a lot of potential in this being if not one of the finest trails since LKN. It has more elevation than most trails around here in the lower Piedmont area. Poston though still has the most I think. To me that trail is by far the best and is close to the mtns. for some of us that can't make that ride every weekend. As far as maintance we got that covered . Let's just put it this way , God just put his finger down on the piece of property and said , we'll just put a line here and a hill there and some valleys all over...not really valleys but more like The Gravity Cavity at Poplar Tent and Pee Wees . It is a all natural trail and it needs to be left that way with of course little features here an there. Josh Krynock and another fella I can't remember his name are in charge of it, I am just voice for it and trust me, this is going to be awesome. I even thought maybe one day we could connect WWC to it and add mileage to it. knowing all the XC guys would go nuts with it. The more the mile the bigger the smile..Hope to see you soon up at Snowshoe this year ..Have a great day and as always RAMFB....

right across the river from the Duke Power Plant...The more I think about it the more I tell myself I might be makeing this out to be nothing big, but to me I see things a little different from others..I see hills that role and wheels that will just go..I might be wrong as far as elevation and I think I am and I know someone will shut me down on that so I am going to say I might be wrong but when you walk out there and are at the bottom of nowhere and look up and you see everywhere around you is a hill to climb or a hill to go down and you get excited to get to the next climb up and go down and it is the same thing all around. Yeah I might be a bit overkill on this but you all will see. It will not happen over night. I get a lot of my ideas from WWC from how Lee Flythe put time into it ,WWC, and it worked. I would love to see him out there and help with this , he has a great eye and a good mind and is one heck of a mtn.biker or biker in general..Right now life is good ...Dixie River is gonna be what we make it..with a cool river breeze and beautiful trees all around...

Across the lake from the G.G. Allen steam plant?

I think he's talking about near the airport, off Dixie River road.

Where's the trail head?

I'm glad to see everyones excitement over the possibility of some new trail.  This project has been many years in the making and we are getting very close to starting...but we are not there yet.

At this point their is no trailhead.  That is one of the things we are currently waiting for.  Unfortunately people have been dumping trash out there for years so the plan is to get a parking area built so that we can get dumpsters in there and start cleaning up.  When we get to that point we will be posting up workdays to help.  Then we will start building trails and holding many more workdays.

Right now what we have to do is be patient.  We will be posting workdays as soon as we are able.

I'm at Snowshoe skiing, but can't wait till May when the DH trails open. I'll be moving up here at the end of the month and hope to get a job working on the trails here. You'll have to come up and see me and do some riding.

I've got to jump in since I'll be Josh's partner in crime in laying this trail out.  I'm Brian Malec and have assisted in a few TB trails over the last 20+ years.  My last major contribution was in '09/'10 as the project leader for SWDP.  Here are more details on Dixie River...

The magic number for this property is 130... 130 acres with 130' of vertical elevation change.  Highest point is 710' with the lowest at the Catawba River being 580'.  Here is a link with a topo.

Mecklenburg County Parcel ID: 11329102

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

As Tom mentioned, we are in a holding pattern until a parking area is built and a major trash clean-up is complete.

PARCEL DISCRIPTION: The property is long and narrow and has a road from Dixie River Road all the way to the river and will be perfect for an emergency exit as well as a great corridor for getting in/out equipment.  The highest areas are mostly pine with hardwoods covering the majority of the property (see the aerial photo for the canopy mix). I'd guess it's a 60/40 mix (hardwoods/pine).  There are a few areas with large boulders and the terrain is rolling down all the way to the river.  The riverfront has a sandy beach with no bank.  Unfortunately the view across the water isn't the nicest considering it's right across the Catawba from the Duke Allen Steam Station.

WHAT TO EXPECT:  A stacked loop system with at least one flow trail using up every bit of 130 feet elevation.  The parking area will be just inside the parcel from Dixie River Road were the topo is flat.  An easier beginner loop will be closest to the parking lot.  As the elevation drops there will be plenty of room available for fast flow trail with TTF options.

I'm very much looking forward to working with everyone on this project!!!  Yet another great opportunity for this club to build a fantastic trail for all facets of the riding community.  This property definitely has a lot to offer from beginners all the way up to the BIG hit crowd.

STAY TUNED!!!  Cheesy
-Brian

No problem.... Heck, I'm pretty excited about the possibilities as well.  I think there will be plenty out there when it's all said and done for everyone to enjoy?  That's the goal at least.  With the elevation out there, it should have plenty of what the advanced rider is looking for (drops, jumps and other TTF's).  If anything, my hope is that the majority of the trail will be biased to the advance riding (or at least have plenty of technical options)

I don't want to be the buzz-kill before the ball gets rolling.
