Thank you to rider who helped my son at RR

Wanted to say thank you to the gentleman that helped my son at Rocky River Trail yesterday afternoon.

My 15yr old son, Chase, rode Rocky alone yesterday (he is very familiar with the trail) and had a high speed crash (he got the whole thing on his GoPro which he was thrilled about). A fellow rider helped him find his way back to the parking area.

Chase went over the bars after jumping a rock section and landed on his head. Helmet is did it's job but is toast. Took him to the urgent care which sent us to the ER. He tore up his chin, lip, cheek, shoulder, clavicle, knee & arm but he'll be fine (he's had much worse racing dirtbikes and karts).

Chase can't wait to hit Rocky again - it's his favorite trail!

Thanks again!

I'm assuming that is the rock section going down towards the bottom of the hill after ski slope?

Thx for the kind words everyone. Yeah - he mentioned something bombing the ski slope and hit the rock section too quick. I'll have to ask him.

He currently rides a lrg scott spark pro 29 and wants to move into an enduro bike (we're moving back to so cal this July and there is lot of enduro racing in the area). Anyone have any suggestions on a medium to high end enduro bike? Thinking of selling his spark and a lrg scott scale pro 29 (the hardtail version) that were not riding to fund a competitive enduro bike...

Also - any feedback on the Leatt full face bicycle helmet? Chase has worn Leatts braces for moto-x and kart racing & has a HANS for auto racing so he is used to wearing that annoying sort of protection. I'm going to buy him a Leatt for bicycles if he is going to race enduro. After a closer look at the damage to his Giro helmet, he decided he wanted a higher quality + full face helmet after this last crash. Figured that the Leatt helmet was engineered to work properly with the neck brace.

thx Tom

I have an atlas brace which I like but would have a hard time riding with it and a full face while not on my Dh bike.

Not being funny but where is ther a rock garden after ski hill? Are y'all talking about the drop right before the bridge?

My understanding was that it was the Dickys Rock feature. That his brake lever had rotated causing him as he tried to grab some brake (just before going over the rock) losing grip of the handlebar. Off the rock one handed not good. Now that was the feature I understood it to be could be wrong.

Steve - Chase said he saw you there. That sounds about right. I've watched the video a few times and it looked like that is what occurred. Chase severed the tips of his pointer and middle fingers on his left hand an accident a few yrs ago. He can't grab the brake lever with those two fingers and hold on to the bars with the others at the same time. Consequently, he has to partially let go of the grip to use the brakes. This is why he quit racing dirt bikes and transitioned to karts - he couldn't clutch they way he needed to but he could hold a steering wheel.

Steve - Chase loves your trail and can't wait to return - thanks for everything you do!

Yeah , the neck braces take some getting used to. Chase initially complained about his Leatt when he first wore it while racing dirt bikes, but was used to it within approx 15 hours. He claims the Leatt saved him more than once and refused to ride without it. He felt the same about the Leatt for the kart and the hans for the cars. Only takes one big wreck to get your attention and your mind starts to piece together what could've happened.

Next time he rides (hopefully very soon) he'll be have a leatt & full face. In the process of looking for an enduro bike now.

His Giro Fathom helmet was dented in 4 spots and the plastic cover was severed in the deepest dent.

First and foremost glad to hear he is OK, and I wish him a speedy recovery.  On a side note if you do find an enduro bike you like let me know I might take the FS off your hands as I'm looking for a lower travel / faster bike =D.

That was me who helped walk Chase out.  Glad to hear he will be ok and is looking forward to hitting Steve's again, he is fast.  He handled that crash pretty well.
