What is the deal with signage at Sherman? Getting ready for a race or just new signage for safety location purpose? Nice signs though. Now if one gets hurt on the trail he/she can just say marker  S11?
I was thinking cool...race at Sherman maybe.. Roll Eyes thanks for the latest trail work..

The local Fire Department requested them so they wouldn't get lost and could find hurt riders faster.

Sorry, no racing at Sherman. Wink

What's the logic to the new trail number system?  I can't make sense out of it (yet).

It make no sense for the user. Totaly worthless to navigate by.

It does work for VFD who has the grid key, but only if you can tell them the number you are at if you need help. Old system would have been too easy if we had added mile markers, and they didn't want to learn the 3 color trail system.

This is what happens when you mix a less than enthusiastic VFD captain and a city council member.

Why is there no racing at Sherman?  Is it that there just is not enough parking?

Really surprising that they could think anyone will have any idea what number they are at when the system is not at all progressive (really random letters/ numbers) and there are so very few of them. Also, you'd have to have your line of sight way high when riding to see them they are so high. (Is this to prevent vandalism?)

I would have bet good money these were grid markers for the Nature Center folks.

Is it Mint Hill FD that covers that area? If so I know the fire chief and can inquire about it and the logic behind the numbers. I'm curious myself as I'm always solo out there early in the mornings during the week.

A grid eh?  Well that works great in the Carowinds parking lot so it should work great in the woods too right?

You've got to be kidding.  Who would use a grid to mark a twisty set of trails in the woods?   Trail users have no way to know where they are and will have to run around looking for a sign since humans have a hard time remembering random letters and numbers that are not in some kind of logical order.  Also... what are the odds that the first responders will have the grid key handy?
