Beatty compared to Sherman.

First year mountain biking, live literally seconds away from beatty. So I've gotten to ride it twice a week for the last two months now and I'm pretty good on the blue's and can hit most of the black jumps without having to set up for them. Other than WWC trails which I'm honestly not to fond of Beatty is all I've rode. Looking to branch out tomorrow to try something new (that and Beatty and her roots are not being nice to my wrist injury). So I was thinking Sherman, the issue I tend to find is what is blue on beatty doesn't seem to be the same elsewhere. I wanted to know compared to Beatty what is Sherman and BYT like. Climbs are never issues for me, I tend to get a bit brake happy on down hills.
I ride a: specialized crave hardtail 29'er
thanks for any advice

Sherman will be fine. Byt sounds like it may be a bit over your head still. Also it's better to go there with someone that knows where they are going.

I think you're right on that Sherman has been something I've been waiting to try since I bought my bike. I have to pull teeth to get my group of friends to go riding now since its whitewater season again. Would you consider it the same level as the main track around beatty? Or would it be more in tune to the black trail. I know they are probably vastly different but I need something to gauge off before I clip in.

Sherman is (or can be, doing all options) about 2x as long as Beatty. I would characterize Sherman as "fast and flowy", vs. Beatty as choppy and rooty. Plus, rarely will you encounter walkers, hikers, or dogs at Sherman.

There are no severe climbs at Sherman, but some are sustained (last climb out, for example). There are also some technical areas - rock gardens and such, plus a creek crossing that's devilish until you learn the line and trust yourself.

Having ridden both - a lot! - I think you'll love Sherman.

I feel you did yourself a huge favor learning on Beatty first. It teaches you how to ride technically, has jumps, some fast flow, some climbs etc.. One you do well on Beatty you'll be good anywhere just comes down to conditioning. Pm me if you go to Sherman during the week can show you around

If you do Beatty you be fine on Sherm. I agree with other poster, sounds like you may not want to hit BYT yet.

Once classes are over I'll be able to hit the trails during the week, for now I'm stuck with anything not farther than beatty till weekends. Beatty is really nice, not to fond of the people who walk the trails with the dogs off the leash, or having to 2/3 times a ride tell someone they are cycling the wrong way on the trail. I don't think conditioning will be a big issue I tend to pull 3/4 laps around beatty before I get to my granny gears. The only real comparison I have is the usnwc, and it's night and day different from beatty. Some of those trails are so narrow and the up hill switch backs are murderous.

Yeah whitewater center is harder than Beatty on most trails. Sherman is on par with Beatty you will not have any issues if you are hitting everything at Beatty and have a little more flow/speed at Sherman. Do you ride the second black trial at Beatty? I also ride Beatty during the week usually Monday's and Wednesday's anytime if you want a gauge on what you are ready for but from what you've said you shouldn't have any issues at Sherman, go have fun. Byt is another story if you go, go with someone who goes there's first.

No I know it's there but always forget about, I've never done it before is it marked? I see it on the maps but I've never done it before. I'll have to look out for it, where is the new section that the club has been building going to be?

If you like Beatty you'll love Sherman. I'm about 5 minutes from Beatty so I hit it all the time for a quick lap, and hit Sherman maybe once or twice a week.

I usually ride in the mornings during the week so if you want to ride sometime hit me up. I'll gladly ride Sherman with you as well and show you around.

I learned at Sherman and other than the rock gardens and the inchworm wooden feature it is great for a new rider or someone not used to the layout.  You won't have anything sneak up on you really and it's not all that physically demanding save for a couple of climbs on the roller coaster loop.  Agreed that the creek crossing on the lake loops required learning the proper line.  It's easy to get up speed and keep it in most areas.  That said, I like Beatty more just because of the black loops.  It's rooty and slow in a lot of places but I love the layout.  Rode it yesterday and kept telling myself how much I liked it.

I would add the Beatty Blacks to your routine.  They are a lot of fun.

Finally got a chance to ride Sherman.  Pretty freaking fun.  The first half mile plus add in the roller coaster loop and that makes the trip worth while right there.  I did 9.2 miles, and I felt pretty good afterwards.  I do like it better than Beatty from a flow perspective, as well as all those nice small jumps and drops.  Fun, smooth ride for sure.  Great work on those trails guys.
