Time Warner is hitting me with something like $150. Sounds way too expensive.

I may be pretty unconventional, but I pulled the plug on main cable and now only use cable for high speed internet.

I pay $58 per month for 50mbps.
I pay $21 per month for 1 disc Netflix plus streaming.
I pay $7 per month for Hulu.
I pay $100 per year for Prime streaming.

I do not, but could pay $20 per month for SlingTV to get Espn, Disney, Food Network, etc.
I do not, but could pay $15 per month for HBO Now streaming.

I also have purchased 3 omni-directional interior digital antennae with separate power source to boost the signal.  From my house in SE Charlotte I get around 30-45 channels. The only thing very tough to get here is ETV, but the upstairs TV does pretty well.

If I'm watching regular tv shows, I either catch them on the antenna stations or I watch them on Hulu at my preference. If I was regularly watching non-football sports more I'd probably get the SlingTV package, but with my schedule I just head to the bar when there's an event I want to see that's not on NBC, Fox, or CBS.

TWC was charging me close to $200 and I was always beholden to the schedule of the station programmers.  Now I just watch whatever I want whenever I feel like it, for less than half the price.  It was a win-win, and I recommend it to everyone.

Does that speed meet your needs for all your streaming?  Thinking of going a similar tv/internet setup as you.

To unplug from a Cable subscription you still need a means to access the Internet and its content.
A Smart TV  - SlingBox + Roku+ apple TV Etc.

I built a " media PC" Cost about 350$  good processor With HD Antenna Card with some memory and a good hard drive that does all my intake of data for entertainment.

After seting up your device to get the shows and programs a good way to get more content is to Share those sites with others...

I share my Prime account with my parents in Virginia - We use the amazon video for Alot of Shows. We also share a Hulu + Netflix accounts for more content. One person pays one subscription - I pay the other - we keep the passwords same and keep the content open.

Sports ('m personally not a heavy live sports consumer)- but with enough internet work - you can usually stream ANYTHING with the web.

- also use HD Digital antenna for Live over the air local TV. Like this one

I haven't had a Cable Subscription for about 10 Years now - and now - when visting others and having to watch their TV + Commercials and SOO Many useless channels or content you don't want to see. I just about go crazy - Cant stand it....

Make the change  - watch only what you want to see- not what they make you!

Youtube these days now has enough entertaining content to keep me Tube Distracted too much!!!

better yet = Just ride a bike!

So far, my true speeds have varied between 45 and 60mbps, and that has been sufficient to have 3 tvs streaming, 2 laptops, 2 chromebooks, and 2 ipads all going at the same time. Bumping up to 100mpbs isn't that much more expensive now that the threat of Google Fiber has hit Charlotte.  I'm strongly looking at spending the extra $12 to go to Google Fiber anyway, as my true speed should jump up into the 900's for mbps.

You can stream live sports also through Sling, or getting NFL, or MLB, or or whatever sport interests you the most package.

I watched game 2 of the NBA Finals last night in High Def with an antenna for Free on ABC

Get her Netflix, Hulu, and Prime (all told probably works out to about $30 a month). She can binge watch commercial free t.v. to her heart's content. Happy wife, happy life.

Another cord cutting bonus: over the air HD sports look better than cable. Less compression.

TWC 200 down 20 up $45 a month (much negotiating and going 99% of the way through the cancellation process)

Use my own modem (avoid rental fee's. Make sure it's a 16 channel modem.)

Sling TV $20 per month. (Has ESPN and TNT for my sports)

Use ROKU's to stream sling to non-smart TV's

still experimenting with antennas

I pay $100 a month for 200/20 and digital cable (1 box with 6 channel DVR).  I wish I could cut the cord but the other half would kill me.

I didn't have to negotiate much; I just told them I was cutting my TV off b/c I was sick of their crap and was planning on illegally obtaining my stuff and would probably share with other TWC customers who are sick of their crap.

I got transferred to a manager right away (I was actually polite and never intended on actually staying with them).  Funny thing is that the day before I was trying to get them to work with me and give me 20mpbs service and TV (with old equipment) for $110.

I've cut the cord as well.  For an antenna, I use a roof top antenna that I have in my attic and use the co-ax cable in my house to wire to each tv.  Also, I have two Windows 7 machines that work as DVRs.

I sign up for Sling between September-April for sports in order get access to the Watch ESPN app.  Warning--I have had horrible experience with the Sling apps.  They are very buggy.  Fortunately, you can use the Watch ESPN app.  I understand HULU may soon offer a package that includes ESPN.

I use this antenna.

Plus Powered Signal Amplfiier ( I have a long antenna run from Roof to TV)

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

= The HD Antenna is simple- and if you don't get good results- box it up and return it- no problem.

I upgraded from a simpler unit - but i also live North Charlotte in the Flight path of the incoming planes to CLT Airport.  Airplane Radar WILL knock out a weaker antenna signal.
Better antenna helps but not always 100% for 3-5 seconds will loose it if the air traffic is coming in at a low altitude.

Just be ready.
