New Trail @ Beatty

Just rode the new section of trail over at Beatty and thought it was pretty neat. It's still pretty soft and will need to wear in a bit but overall a nice bit of work. Kudo's to the trail gnomes that made it happen.

Keeping riding it in! A few more weeks of riding will get it all smoothed out!

I just rode Beatty but didn't come across any new trail. I ride the 2 blacks and the blues starting from the tennis courts.

Just across the road from the tennis courts at a hard 180° right hand turn .
Not quite done but definitely ready to ride!

I hope you're kidding.

But if you aren't, probably not.

We're outside of their normal habitat.

I should say you should hope not. But if think so, you should go to the doctor/hospital immediately.
Just do a google search of brown recluse bites. That should convince you.

There are many other insect bites that can cause much less severe symptoms. Sometimes the bite area will become infected. You should put neosporin on it and see if it improves. If the redness starts expanding and it starts blistering up, go to the doctor asap.

Thanks. I was a field biologist for a good while and have some experience in this area. I have definitely seen some nasty photos of the bites and resulting necrosis. Not something to mess with. My bite was back in april.

Still trying to figure out where the new trail head is located. Does it link up with the rest of the main trail?

Yes. Its just a little .4 mile extension before you head into the "three amigos" section.

No problem.

I think you'll be ok.

I have personal experience. Not me, but a friend. It wasn't in this part of the country. It was ugly.

I did two laps yesterday and didn't see it. What are the three amigos?

Here is my route after the road crossing. There is only one 180 hard right but I don't recall seeing anything that looked like new trail around there.

They ain't no joke!!! Got bit by 1 many years back and it took like 3 months to even begin healing and smelled like death and 6 or 7 months for it to completely heal.

Best way I can locate it for you is to start from the beginning of my ride. I always start from the first parking lot on the left as you come in the entrance.  (Right by the tennis courts) Riding counter clockwise from that point (direction the trail is marked) you will go through a very short section of trail and then come to the main entrance road that you will need to cross. Continue on across the road and the trail bears generally to the left. Within 200 yards or so of crossing the road you will come to a 180 turn.  The new trail basically  allows you to continue to go in a straight line rather than making the turn. It will go for about a half mile and then ties back to the exit of the same turn.  Not marked yet but is recognizable by the different color of the dirt and generally softer trail condition. Looking at the photo you attached I would guess it is just out of the picture in the bottom right.  Hope you find it next time, it's a nice little ride!

It is here at the circle. Instead of taking the hairpin turn to the right, you would just keep going straight, there's a bit of a clearing and then you go back into the woods on the other side. It's not signed yet as there are a couple jumps to get sorted out still.

Also I can confirm chiggers in the open area with 6 foot+ tall weeds. They got me good when I was running the brush hog.

^^^ This drawing is accurate.  Also as of 7/4 there are two white irrigation flags marking the entrance.

How often do the "official" trail map signs change?  I know there is this piece plus all of the work done to re-route the green/black due to the property line.

Not very often. I don't think the map signage has the chigger hollow addition, and that was 3 years ago.
It definitely needs to be redone soon.
