Anyone do house repair? Water leaks when it rains

Every so often during heavy rains/bad storms, we get water that leaks inside around a window frame on one end of our house.

There is siding on that wall, as well as a pitched roof with gutters almost right over the window. My gut tells me it is coming from where the pitched roof meets the house, whether it's getting around the flashing due to rain getting blown against that side of the house, or the gutter is possibly overflowing on that end.

I'd prefer to find someone on here or by word of mouth rather than randomly picking companies out of a phone book/google search.

Any help is appreciated.

Are your gutters clogged?

I'm not sure if he does this exact type of work but a fellow Trailblazer Sean McGuirk does a lot of random handyman services like this.  He has done a few around my house and always with high quality.

Douglas, I'll have to double check. I cleaned them out this Spring, and there wasn't that much in there at the time. I wouldn't think that was the issue just because the leaves haven't fallen since, but I'll definitely double check this weekend.

Just to give an idea of frequency of the issue, we noticed the leak this past Sunday when we had that big storm roll through. The last time we noticed it was earlier this year, February or March I believe.

Solar, thanks for the info!

It sounds like the window wasn't flashed properly, or perhaps they forgot the drip cap.

Without tearing the siding off and re-flashing the window w/drip cap (the best option), you can try caulk between the exterior head and side casing. This will have to be reapplied every few years. Silicone rubber lasts longer, but it can be a real mess if you don't get the bead just right and is generally not toolable/paintable.
