Seatpost Dropper

Wanted to ask to the more experienced riders what they think about adding a seatpost dropper. I have been invited, for next year, to ride the Monte Asietta ( (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)) with an old friend. He suggested for such a ride to have a bike with a Seatpost Dropper so you can change your riding config. What are your thoughts?

I think you will find most people would say absolutely yes.  If you are doing some tougher technical descents and you can afford it then, it's well worth it.

My downhill times are faster with dropper but it will add 1.5 lbs to bike weight.

I highly recommend a dropper post.  It will definitely increase your fun factor on descents and make you feel more comfortable when the downhills get steep.

If you get a dropper for this event. I would suggest riding with it for a while beforehand on trails you know well. It takes some time to become familiar with how and when to utilize the dropper to get the max benefit out of it. Eventually, it will become second nature, but in the beginning you will find yourself forgetting it is even there, at which point it is just extra weight you have to lug around.

Similar to how a first time rider has 20+ gears at their disposal, but still winds up 20 ft into a steep climb in their 34x13 gear combo. At which point they try to slam down 4 gears at once, while pedaling at full torque.

Remove the "unknown trail" variable and learn how/when to use the dropper on familiar territory.

The only drawback to a dropper post is that once you have one, you'll want one on all of your bikes.

Thank you! That's a good idea.
