Some wood features would be cool especially over some of the rootiest sections, but I definitely disagree with "dumbing down" this trail. Beatty is one that forces you to learn a little more finesse and skill going through some of those sections. I definitely cuss to myself every time I do that one section with the really rooty climbs/small downhills that goes up and down for a bit, but I get better at it and faster every time.

I've definitely noticed way more reroutes in the past year or so. Most likely casual riders trying to make easier paths, so I agree some work needs to be done in several places and I'll be glad to come out and help!

ALL 45 degree roots should be left on ALL trails. Something's gotta teach folks some skillz!

I'm glad to see this thread has, for the most part, stayed towards a productive discussion of the situation.

I think the use of wooden features could be a great remedy on areas that are repeatedly worn down or are subject to work arounds being built.  I think we need to consider that fact that every wooden feature/land bridge doesn't need to be easy.  I would love to build a wooden feature that starts out wide enough for anyone to feel confident in taking but then building it to get more narrow as it goes.  This could include "exit ramps" if you will, that could let less skilled riders get off the feature as they've reached their personal limit but allow others to keep going onto more narrow parts.  This could start out at around 30-36" and then work its way down to 12-18' widths.  It wouldn't even need to be very high off the ground, allowing again for some forgiveness to those willing to try but not looking to get hurt/damage their bike if they fail.  This could even have later entrance ramps to put you up on the feature if you choose to pass it initially but then decide to give it a try.

I'd be curious whats possible when it comes to the climbs that keep eroding out to end up being a climb of roots.  Could a wooden feature be built on a climb that could be ridable when wet?  Again, it doesn't have to be greenway wide, but maybe have the metal lattice that's been used out at BYT to add traction.

* And yes, I'm willing to build these if I can match timing with work days or set up a work day with a TC during the week when I can get out to the trail.  Weekends are tough for me and my family.

They did it at Sherman (on Roller Coaster?).

Not saying that something like that would be the best option for Beatty... I leave that to the trail wizards.

But, I will help build whatever might be needed.

FWIW, two trips to Beatty last spring got me over my newbie fear and loathing of roots.  I have only made it back once, but I say for the most part leave it be.

Now if you could do something about the number of pedestrians.  Can we have a work day on pedestrian removal?  Smiley

Come on people! For all the bitching, whining, and moaning that goes on about how rough this trail has gotten....lets get some volunteers out there to fix it.

FYI a ton of roots and erosion areas were fixed along the blue trail.  Have fun!

Thanks for the hard work to those that were able to make it.

I couldn't get there this weekend but I am available during the day during the week from time to time.  PM me if there's something I can help with... like building some insane wooden feature of some sort over annoying roots, you know something with elevation changes, width variations and topical shifts.
