Fox Fork Issue

Print Post
The last three rides the threaded tube on the right side of my fox fork keeps coming out.  It is threaded but the threads dont seem to hold anymore.  I can tighten them, but after a mile or so it just pops out again.  Just curious if anyone cant point me in the right direction.  Fork is a Fox EVO 32 120 for a 29er

You need to take it to your local bike shop. This is a known issue with fox- your stanchion tube is creeping up into the crown and pushing that damper out. No bueno.

Took it to MOJO and he suggested blue loctite.  I sent an email to fox, I guess I'll wait to see what they have to say.

Bad suggestion on loctite. If there is a problem, it should be fixed. Find another shop.

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

I second that.  I am a supporter of local bike shops and hate to speak negatively but I have received poor recommendations from Mojo before.  Ultimate or Bike Source are my usual shops and tend to be the most knowledgeable (for my local area).  There are a lot of other good shops in the area too that I haven't mentioned!

I might end up going with a ridged fork and turning this bike into a single speed.  My wife's quote "you have put a lot of miles on that bike, maybe you should look at getting a newer one" Cheesy.  She doesn't know that the newer one is a Yeti SB5c, so we will see how that goes.

Right?!?  Mine would say something like, "You already have a road bike too.  Just ride that instead...."  Undecided

I wouldn't Loctite anything on a suspension fork.  There's definitely an issue with the fork.  I haven't encountered that problem on one at the shop...yet.  You may get faster service from Fox going through a shop.  Best of luck and let us know how it turns out!

It turned out to be that the inside threads on the upper tube were stripped. At least I think thats what its called, I know nothing about the components of suspension forks.  The top 3-4 threads were completely gone.  At Ultimate know seeing what can be done.

'Uppers' 'Upper Stanchion Assembly'  Close enough. Wink

Yup.  Missing threads will definitely cause a problem like that!
