IntheBush's carbon fiber handlebar test

I had a spare 620mm carbon fiber handlebar (130 grams) I decided to test against a 5000 lb. F-150. I didn't know exactly what to expect. I decided to use the front tire, since that's where the engine and most of the weight of the vehicle.

Other than a few minor cosmetic scratches from burying itself into the gravel driveway, the bar is completely intact with no visible damage.

So, I decided to make a test a little tougher by turning the 2x4 on it's edge and rocking back and forth on top of the bar.

The bar is completely supporting the drivers side front tire of the vehicle.

The bar actually dug a small trench into a very hard gravel driveway.

Other than a few more scratches from the gravel, the bar is intact, perfectly shaped and shows no damage at all.

After a quick rinse and wipe it still looks new.  Smiley

So I guess I don't have to worry about my carbon bars breaking 😊

Draw to your own conclusions.

But after conducting this test, I don't think you have to worry about it. But I am curious as to how much abuse it will take.

I haven't tried the same test with an aluminum bar, but I might do an update soon.

I'm open to trying more experiments if anybody has any suggestions. Maybe I'll use it for target practice.  Smiley
