I'm not sure what happen last evening

A BIG THANK YOU to all the people that helped me out yesterday evening.  I had a major wreck , I  think it was on carpet,but I'm not sure. I remember starting Carpet and the next thing I remember was 2 guys being at my truck. I  now have a broken wrist, double vision, a little blood on my brain, stitches in my face, and a  few other minor things.  A special thanks to  Sandman and his staff for taking care of me here in the hospital. 
BTW I'm glad now that I spent the money on a Troy Lee Design A-1 Helmet it will need to be replaced today but it my have very well saved my life yesterday.

Dang! That sounds pretty bad! I cringe just reading your list of injuries...

I wrecked hard on Carpet a few weeks back. Got loose in the pine needles, tried to save it and ended up high siding off the trail. I was HAULING... apparently my speed exceeded my skill level  Roll Eyes 

I got really lucky I didn't hit my head at all, but I had to sacrifice the arm as I went down, to avoid the trees. Fractured elbow and some ligament damage. Been about a week since surgery, going back today to get the splint off, stitches out, and start PT. 

Big thanks to all that helped me out and got my bike and gear back to my car for me.

Oohoo said you had too much fun out there recently.  I did an OTB on the pine needles out there a few years back. I always take it easy on those turns now.

After going back and looking at my GPS, I was going down the first hill on Carpet at 19.8 MPH and made a sudden stop. I'm still not sure if I hit the big tree on the left or not but today it feels like I hit every tree in the woods.

That's exactly where I envisioned you going down.  I've clipped my bars several times on the tree at the same spot while trying to fly over as many roots as possible to keep my speed for the sharp left turn shortly after.  I hope you aren't too rattled and make a quick and full recovery!

We're talking before the rooty drop down rh turn?  I put a mean shoulder block on a tree before that, next to the construction depot.  My grip took a lot of it.  Something evil was lurking on carpet Sunday.

Thanks, I  have 2 different doctor appointments today.
1st 2 doctors  this morning said that I  have nerve damage, , thus the right eye is not working so well.
I see an orthopedic doctor about my left wrist this afternoon. .I wish I could say  "I  hope to be riding soon " but at this point "I  hope to be riding again someday "

Well I'm still not sure exactly what happen but I  do know for sure now that I  crashed at the first bridge on Carpet.  I know I was traveling over 20 mph. I crashed,  wondered around in the woods  for about 40 minutes then got back on the trail and came out at the power lines. I still don't know who helped me back to the truck.
I currently have a cast on my left arm and I  have nerve damage  that is causing me to have double vision  so no running, no riding and no working. 
Hopefully I will be better soon.

Well it's been over 100 days now. I've  walked the Carpet Trail and I  now know that I  did crash going down the 1st hill at 23MPH. I still have a little double vision but it's getting better. At this point I'm still not sure that I will ever be able to ride again. I  do plan to return to work sometime in February. 
  Be safe and wear a good helmet.  Had I not been wearing a good helmet I may not be here.
One last thing,  I'm still not sure exactly what happened or who helped me out of the woods.

Good to hear Big Chuck! Give it time.
Check into what some sports med guys have done. Dale Jr and some of the NFL guys talk about the treatments. Dale Jr is cleared to go race again. He had double vision and balance issues.
Not to say you have not looked into this.

Update: Finally after 128 days I went back to work yesterday.  I'm going for a 3 mile run in the AM at the WWC. So we will see how that goes. As for riding the "Santa Cruzer" at this point, no time soon but hopefully some day. I REALLY REALLY  MISS RIDDING.

Glad to hear you are doing well.  My last big crash was at the WWC over the summer.  I just remember my grip clipping a tree and then something hitting my helmet.  My buddy said it sounded like someone threw a good size rock at my helmet from about 8 feet away!  I got lucky though.  Finished the ride and was back at it that same week.  Maybe if you just kept an easy pace and rode tame trails just to enjoy being back on the bike?  It sounds like you want to but maybe it's not worth the risk/reward at this point? Either way, enjoy yourself out there and good to hear you are doing better.
