"I'm writing to share some very sad news. We learned yesterday  that District Ranger Deborah Walker passed away Saturday from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.  We don't have all of the details but apparently she lost control of the motorcycle that she was driving and  received significant injuries. She was airlifted to a local hospital but did not survive her injuries. We will share additional information as we learn more.

Deborah was a wonderfully warm and caring person who dedicated her career to leading people and serving the community. Deborah will be missed by coworkers and the many partners she worked with in her time on the Uwharrie Ranger District.

It is at times like these when I realize how much of a family we are in the Forest Service. We will continue to provide support to district employees and the forest during this very sad time. As final arrangements are made this information will be shared.

Allen"

She was a major force over the years in improving the trails at Uwharrie National Forest and a great advocate for our National Forests.  I had spent many meetings with her talking about what we could do to make more improvements.   She will be missed.

Sad news indeed. She seemed very committed to the forest she was in charge of protecting.

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.

I didn't get the chance to work with her much, but she seem to be dedicated to the forest service. She will be missed! Prayers and thoughts to her family.
