Beer

I got my annual six pack of Hopslam last week. Although it is still A good beer, I paid twenty bucks for it. With all the breweries around these days, it's possible to find something similar for less. I'm trying to lose a few pounds. So I have given up beer for the time being. If I ever start back up though, I'llstart checking out more session beers. The light beer of the Craft industry 🍺🍻

Yeah hard to justify when there are dozens of beers just as good available on a regular basis now.  But it is 10% ABV so maybe when you look at it that way... Cheesy

It was on tap at Duckworths ballantyne last week but the  flavor isn't the same as prior years.  Not really worth $7/10oz IMO.

A long time back now WWC had the best deals on craft beer.  They would get all the top unicorn beers.  Most of which they would sell you a 22oz (labeled as a 24oz) cup full.  Here in recent years the prices have come more inline w/ local restaurants and they no longer sell the unicorn beers in the bigboy cups.
I believe they still get the unicorn beers but the restaurant hours are so unpredictable anymore it's hard to find a time when it's open during the week after 5/6PM.

as an aside on WWC:
Their Thursday concert used to be the best when it was all bluegrass... with a little folk mixed in... but that is a topic for another thread.

As of Monday night Davidson Beverage Company had $4 half pints of Hopslam which is a nice option.  I was there before going to pick my son up before basketball practice so a smaller version of a 10% beer was perfect.

Who makes honey pie. Hopslam is a double IPA brewed with honey. Is it the same process.

Noda also makes Hopcakes which is similar in style and brewed with maple syrup I think. Haven't seen it this year, but I've liked it better than Hopslam recently.  Also not very cheap though!

Birdsong Brewery right here in Charlotte makes Honey Pie!  And yes it's another DIPA brewed with honey.  Hopcakes is due for release on Feb 12th FYI.

I stopped worrying about chasing all those elusive beers because we have so many options now.   For example you can pay $20 for Hopslam or find a locally (or at least regionally) made DIPA for like $12 that will be just as good.  Hell, Terrapin has a Triple IPA that's like $12-14 for a 4-pack and it's great (although it's rye, not honey).

Can't stand rye. I would buy hopslam for nostalgia. For a while, it was one of the only specialty beers around. It only started getting crazy like ten years ago. I still have a place in my heart for Fat Tire For a while it was the only craft beer I knew about. And they were one of the major spouncers of my all-time favorite rides. 1997 Ride The Rockies. Still enjoy Oberon also

I feel like it's a specialty now because people make it as such.  Same with Highland's Cold Mountain.  Cold Mountain is as valuable as gold when it comes to Charlotte, but elsewhere it's just a regular seasonal beer.  I was in Atlanta in December and the bottle shop I went to had cases of it stacked everywhere like it was no big deal at all.

After attending the queen city breweries festival it was obvious how much great craft beer we have here locally.  It's nice to visit other places like Asheville for great beer.....but there is more than a plentiful selection right here in Charlotte.

Since no one has stated the obvious. The best truly hand crated light Pilsner around would be coors light. Made from the finest mountain water and shipped direct from train cars. All you need in life ladies and gentleman.

The thing about light beers, is you lower the ABV to reduce the carbs. There are a few session beers around, as it seems that it was the big thing for the past couple of years. Their case being that you can sit around, and drink more, not get as tipsy, and still have great flavor. When ever I drink craft, the most I ever have would be a six pack. I don't load up to sit at a camp site and drink many more beers. Of all the session brews out there, there's only a few with really satisfying flavor. A couple of darker come to mind. Guinness Stout and OB's Beerito. Coors is a lot more flavorful then their light version, and still carries a lower ABV to be sessionable. I myself seem to like sitting at a local taproom, drinking locally crafted beers. It's one of my biggest pleasures in life😀🚵🍺🍻
