I've never ridden Anne Springs due to the number of other trails between my house and the trail, but I felt bad after seeing over a hundred views of this request for help on a trail with not a one person stepping up and helping.   Embarrassed

I hope by bumping you up, you'll get a couple of helping hands.

For the record, I'm spending my trail building hours at Beatty whenever possible.

Is Springs growing or eliminating trail?  I heard thru a friend that part of Sugar will be lost.  Is that true?  If so, why?  Sugar is the gem of the trail system.

Sugar is on leased land and with all of the growth in Fort Mill, we will lose part of that trail. Lots of work going on recently, part of school loop west have been rerouted and roots removed. I don't like the fact that they are making the trail easier by removing the roots, but the new flow is fast and fun.

Thanks.  A ton of non utilized land out there.  Needs about 10 miles more trail to be a destination.

Yeah this is an interesting question about adding trail at springs and who does the work.  for my understanding, can someone help me out a little on the below:

* When we pay at the kiosk before riding, what does that money support?
* Who is designated to build and maintain trail there, THTB, City of Fort Mill,    other/combination?
* Is the new trail being funded in any way or just a baseline, volunteer supported effort?

I'm not trying to sway the discussion in any way, i just dont think i fully understand how ASCG and THTB interact.  Personally, i love the trail system, natural, moderately challenging (Down Sugar, Up East oohhhh yeah!), and very enjoyable .. and would love to see it expanded.

It would be close to that if we had the old trails that we were involved in. THey were redisnated for HIKING ONLY.

Was the Bobcat Trail also the Train Trestle loop which contained the "3 Kings"?  I miss that whole section about as much as I miss P-Tent!

Not sure if its still this way but a few years ago the attendant at the pay booth told me the money goes to the general fund of ASCG. So Im sure some of that goes to trail work but how much is anyone's guess since that money also goes to other parts of the facility.

I think if its pay to play then they should do their own work like the WWC. Or if they need volunteers let them work toward a free yearly pass? ___ hours of work earns you a free pass for the trails starting the day you hit the minimum hours required...

Two years ago I volunteered for a couple hours on Sugar I believe.  Went to ride after and was told I needed to pay.  Haven't even thought of working out there since.

Yeah, I spent a Sunday working on sugar a few years back and was promised a few free passes.  Never got them though so I'm not real keen on volunteering out there any time soon.

We are members and pay the yearly fee to use the trails for hiking, biking, etc. They have a trail coordinator that inspects the trail, clears the fallen trees and does general daily maintenance, clear drains etc. The coordinator also works with a small group of individuals and volunteers to re-route and cut in new trails. I have also heard that they have hired a trail building company to add additional trails to the system to replace the portions that will be lost to the sugar land developement. They are hoping to have the new trails in place before they have to close sugar.
Get it and ride while you can, the trails are in fantastic shape!

The fees go to the general fund, this fund goes to things like the nature center, dog park, trails and other activities.

The money goes into the general ASCG fund. They collect money from hikers, bikers and horse riders. ASCG does all the trail work, sometimes they ask for some assistance with it. I pay my annual $49 to ride there, and I get more than moneys worth out of the place.

They have been doing a lot of work out there, especially the last few years. It seems that after the rains about 2-3 years ago when the trail was in poor condition, they made a real effort to change some of the routes and make improvements. They have also improved a lot of the hiking trails. The company they hired to add new trail is from Brevard and have done work in Pisgah and DuPont, so I am hoping this is a real plus for the trails. The cost is being paid by ASCG.

I really hope they can get the mileage up to about 15+, that would be really good. Right now it stands at 10 if you hit everything. Replacing Sugar and then adding some extra sounds good to me.
