Looking for an inexpensive starter bike

Looking on behalf of a friend who lives near lake norman state park and wants to get into the sport. He's about 6'2"ish. 

His budget is super tight, $500. I could maybe convince him to stretch a little bit but probably not a whole lot more. If you have something laying around, let me know!
