2013 Cannondale Scalpel, with spare alloy frame
Large

If you are looking for a cheap 100% race ready XC bike, keep reading.

I bought this bike new as an aluminum version in 2013, and have ridden it a lot. A lot in the sense that not many piece have has remained stock on it. I purchased a carbon frame in 2015 that broke later that year, had it repaired and continued to ride it. I actually preferred the aluminum frame going down hill, but the 1.5 pounds lighter on the carbon frame are worth it for climbing.

I’ve done tons of races on the east coast from local XC events, Wilderness 101, ORAMM, the local Winter Series ST as a single speed, and I LOVE this bike. It climbs and pedals on flat ground like a hard tail. Opening the rear shock, descends like a trail bike.

Both frames have been through a lot, chain drops, couple scratches/nicks, the kind of thing you expect from a used bike. It will not win a beauty pageant. The carbon frame does have the protective film, on it, so under that cleans up well. Some dirt is getting under it causing it to look dirty, but if you removed it, would look very good.

For the price I’m asking, I think you can overlook the battle wounds. It is 100% ready to race and reliable.

Here is the photo of wear the carbon work was done. This is a common spot that would break if you did not service the pivot bearings. Now that it is repaired, its way stronger than originally.

Alloy frame had one bout with a serious chain drop, but is covered up by the chain slap protector.

Last I weighted it was close to 24.5 pounds. The only reason I am getting rid of it is to purchase the new version of it.

Frame: Aluminum Frame and repaired Carbon Frame. Both show signs of wear but 100% structurally sound.  Around 1,250 miles on the aluminum frame. Around 1,400 on the repaired carbon frame.
Fork: Aluminum Lefty was upgraded to remote lockout in 2015 when services, then in 2016 received the 2016 Solo Air cartridge. Always serviced and Mendon Cycles. Had some cable rub on it so I rattle canned it flat black.
Rear Shock: Fox RP2, Serviced 2015. Works great.
Wheels/Hubs: Stans Crest with Stans Neo rear hub and Cannondale lefty front hub. Both are less than 2 years old.
Crankset: Sram x0 Carbon Crankset with Wolftooth direct mount 32t.
Drivetrain: Shimano XT 1x11, 11x42 cassette. Purchased 2016. Couple of scratches on the RD
Handlebar: Truvativ 700mm Carbon Bar
Stem: 90mm OPI Stem (originally 110mm, makes this a little less stretched out)
Grips: ESI Chunky, only a handful of rides.
Brakes: Sram Guide 180 front, 160 rear, purchased new 2017. Or Sram XX. (Possibly brand new take off Shimano XT brakeset with zero miles)
Saddle: Fizik Tundra (one of the only remaining original part from the alloy version!)
Seatpost: KCNC Alloy seat post; super light. I also have a Fizik Carbon if you are rough on seat posts to swap out.

Cons:
Not a beauty queen.
water bottle bosses on the carbon frame are gone, covered by duct tape.

Looking for $2200 for everything, or $1500 built up in the alloy version.
You will not find a lighter race rig new a this price. Perfect for that tall NICA student!

I'm located near Sherman Branch. Text or PM me; 732-221-8241
