Planning to touch up a couple of dirt jumps on the main trail just after the silo and to rebuild an eroded log pile just after those jumps.  Meet at 9:00 at the gate off Camp Stewart Rd.  Bring gloves and water and an extra shovel if you have it.  Post up here or send me a PM if you can make it.

Did a run this morning and there are some trees down over the track. I cleared the little one's but these ones will need a chain saw.

On the roller coaster trail at the top of the track pallet climb and between N4/5.
On the main trail between O12/N12.

Thanks.  I'll clear them either this evening or next depending on the pending rain.

There are 2 trees down on the roller coaster. The first is an absolute monster. It sits toward the beginning, right at the top of the section of uphill trail with the wooden 'bridge' going up it.  The other tree is normal sized and is probably close to that tree, but is on the exit side of the trail in one of the gulleys that usually stays muddy, before you get to the small bridge heading toward the log jump that was just rebuilt on the way out of the roller coaster.

Thanks for clearing some stuff up during your run, sheep.

If you can't get to them first, I'll take my saw with me tomorrow evening and try to take care of them.

Oh, and see you Saturday morning.   Smiley

I might be able to lend a hand tomorrow. Post up a time you think you'll be there. I recall seeing barbed wire wrapped around the monster tree. Might need to bring a set of good diagonals or small bolt cutters. I can bring these if I'm able to make it out tomorrow. The big tree is at least 3' in diameter or larger. No joke.

I got the two smaller trees.  This one is another story.  A double trunk tree, both are 2-3 feet in diameter and weigh several thousand pounds.  Not sure if it's able to be done by us.  My mind sees a nice little bridge built over the one resting on the ground if we can get the elevated one removed.

Looks like poison ivy vines on that biggun also. If I lived closer, I'd take that tree out for you. I had one bigger than that in 2007 at NM when the bridge over the creek got washed out. Mark brought out the Ditch Witch and with the aid of 14 or 15 other volunteers, we got the bridge back in place. There's power in numbers!!

I remember that day!  We had to get 12-14 people on the opposite end of the bridge to lever it back up on the bank.  That was the 1st of like 3 times that poor bridge decided to be a boat. Smiley

Yeah Mike, and those poison ivy vines are big 'ole fat ones too.  My new chainsaw is going to be old and tired by the time we get through with that beast.

Thanks for getting the smaller one's David!  That big one will be too much for my 18" chainsaw.  Let's see if we can tag-team on it Saturday morning and make something out of it.  Otherwise, we'll need to find someone with a bigger saw.  Who says size doesn't matter?   Huh

Almost reminds me of some of the ones we have had to cut out at Uwharrie.  I will try to be there with my saw.  I have to cut a large 1 out at Purser-Hurlsey too.

I'll see you guys in the am. What part of the trail is that, should we just consider a reroute and leave it be? It looks pretty eroded.

I'm worried that it's going to collapse at some point based on the way it's resting.  Maybe we'll just build a really tall bridge over the whole thing!   Smiley

I don't want anyone to get hurt clearing that big ole tree! The top trunk looks to be in lots of stress because of the weight from the top of the tree. It will be like a large spring pole and will splinter when it is cut into. Just be real careful!!

Mark, I still have my log book and there were 14 volunteers that showed up that day to help get that bridge back in place. That bridge did wash out again, but it wasn't as bad as it was that first time. RaiderMTB and myself moved it back the last time it got washed out and that took us 3 hours.

Got a pathway thru now... Parks cut it out for us.   Please leave the rest where it is.

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

Remind me to send a Christmas card to whoever at P&R decided to take care of that.  Now we can worry about doing the work we planned to tomorrow.
