New river at Beatty

So I get that we had an excessive amount of rain recently, but during my morning run at Beatty I saw that drain pipe from the new neighborhood pouring a TON of water across the trail in 4 places. 3 spots on the black where it switches back leading up to the junction with main and 1 spot on main. It's more like a stream crossing than a puddle. Any thoughts from those who manage the trail how to fix this?  Drains? Bridges?  Any summer thunderstorm will have the same effect and these spots might not dry all summer. I live right across the street and ride there once or twice a week. I'm more than willing to help do trail work.

We've had an eye on that, working through P&R and the developer on a permanent solution.

In the meantime, we do have a workday this Sunday at 9am, and will likely spend some time working on this. We'd love to have the help!

Saw that coming.
It didn't appear to me that the developer was too concerned with the down stream consequences.

Brian,
I would suggest that you reach out to the county or DENR about this. Properly installed storm drain and erosion control devices should only let water leave the site in the same manner as it did naturally. It sounds to me like they may have had a failure due to the amount of rain that we had in such a short period of time. Odds are they already know about it, especially if any silt was displaced off of their property onto P&R's land. They could be facing fines and/or a stop work order until the problem is resolved.

That's because they funneled the drainage for the entire property through a single drain pipe, pointed the pipe at the park and called it a day. I'll text you later to discuss further. Thanks.

The amount of water leaving the adjacent site is not supposed to changed when developed.  It is supposed to empty onto the adjacent site at the same place.  Problem is that when piped the velocity changes.  I have not seen the site but in this day and age It that water should be filtered through some sort of bioretention, sand filter, rain garden, etc. that would slow the water down unless we have a truly extreme rain event like we had. Then the water goes through emergency spillways and such to get out.  If this is the case it should not be a problem for normal storms.

If the development grandfathered in and no permanent features to handle the water go in place it will be a problem with any rain.

On another note, if the development hasn't reached a certain percentage of completion (again I know nothing about said development whether it is a housing development, commercial, etc), the temporary erosion control features could still be in place.

Not sure if it's been reported but there's a tree down right across the trail maybe 30 ft before that "creek"...

Also there's another one further down (maybe a mile down the trail)... but not sure about that one.. if it's part of the plan or "well, now it is..." Smiley  pic attached

Quick update: the city approved the drain, and Steve (Tinman) took a look and everything is up to code. I'm still working through P&R to get the city and developer to help correct the situation on our side of the fence.

Reminder: we have a workday scheduled Sunday 9am. Depending on P&R response, we may work on fixing this.

Years ago Renni used to flood because the parking lots from the old coliseaum would drain directly on to the trails.  I remember walking out in waist deep water once as I got caught out in a heavy downpour.

Puh-lease... i for one think it's great that the city/county/state continues to rubber stamp all of these wonderful developments that get rid of all that pesky natural land and clear and regrade it to the point of being unrecognizable, devoid of all previous vegetation and those annoying trees with their roots and leaves and such.  those trees sure are some pompous a$$hats, we need to get rid of more of them so we can have more cookie cutter houses on flat, bare lots.

Update: met with P&R and the builder this morning. Will be moving forward with a solution soon. Keep an eye out for a work day, we'll need lots of help!

Also, Tom's artwork did not get the praise it richly deserves.
