May have cause to ride Tsali next month for the first time in over 10 years.  Honestly I can't remember much beyond it being very fast and not overly difficult - but that was an eternity ago.

Current updates appreciated.

As far as I know, they do still alternate access.  So, bikes use Left and Right when Horses use Mouse and Thompson and then switch the next day.  They have signs near the main parking lot showing the schedule.  If you are looking to ride all ~40 miles, you will need to plan for two days.  Camping is available at Tsali and other nearby campgrounds.  I have camped three times at Tumbling Waters Campground for weekend riding located about six miles from the trail head.  It is/was a nice place.

I rode Tsali in October last year and it was easy to see why it's rated IMBA epic. +1 to Trail Junky about the alternating schedule.  I had to go on different days to complete the trails.  If you ride the Mouse and Thompson loops then take Mouse Branch Loop counter-clockwise to enter Mouse Branch Overloook properly as it one way travel.  Current schedule:

May/July/August/October
Right Loop and Left Loop:
Mountain Bikes – Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday

Mouse Branch and Thompson Loop:
Mountain Bikes – Monday, Wednesday, Friday, & Sunday

Yeah, the optional overlook loops should be ridden as well for the their trail experiences and views.  I have even ridden the double track and gravel road back down to the parking lot that bisects the Left and Right loops.  This can be taken as an early exit once you get to the end of Left.  Though, as an exit, this isn't short even if still easier.  I suppose one could ride in on this and then jump on the Right loop in order to skip Left.

For all that are new to Tsali, do hit the trail prepared with water, food, tubes and a pump.  Unlike most of the trail in the Charlotte area, Tsali's trails do not wrap back and forth to maximize trail length per acre.  A flat and/or injury that keeps one from riding can mean a long walk out.

Camped and rode Thompson/Mouse this past weekend...had an absolute blast! That last down hill on Thompson was legit! Let the fully ridged rip on that sucker! Shaken not stirred.  Cheesy

Shaken!  Ha!  Yeah!  I think that last run is a mile or more long.

Was quite enjoyable.

The newly opened Fire Mountain Trail network in Cherokee is a nice option in the area.  10 plus miles of Trail Dynamics awesomeness, including two great downhill options.  With a $359k price tag they did it right.

Awesome!  This should be convenient for Moonshine Creek Campground, a regular spot for my circle.  The signage does look great.  Here are some links.

Camping & riding Tsali this weekend...looks like rain. Anyone know if they officially close trails because of weather? I know they have a bike wash area=muddy bikes. Just making sure.

I don't think they close the trails as a general rule, because I have seen it as a mess with many, many puddles and muddy spots.  There is a lot of variation through out the trail system in soil composition and trail surfaces that make water holding and drainage characteristics not the same.

Enjoy the trip!  Be sure to check out the horse/bike trails schedule.  You can not ride all four loops on the same day.

We were there in April after very heavy rains and the trails were open.  They on site bike wash station is a nice perk
