USNWC Lake Loop Closure 5/8 - 5/12

Lake Loop is located on private property owned by a petroleum pipeline corporation, and the agreement for trail usage relies on their good will.  Several times a year they perform maintenance on the facility, and during these periods we're asked to close all trail on their property.  Therefore, Lake Loop and a small portion of South Main will be off limits until their work is done.  Please respect this closure as it directly effects the ability to maintain trail on their property.  Pipeline staff will be onsite.  We will remove the closure signage when they indicate their work is complete.

Thanks for the info Lee. Just curious, are these the only USNWC trails that are on private property?

The Lake Loop is easy to avoid.  How does this alter riding South Main?  I imagine the area in question is within the trees on the Lake Loop's side of the power line clearing.  If so, we can just stay in the clearing from the top of Goat Hill, Toilet Bowl, and the Slolum course until we return to the parking lot.

The only portion of South Main affected is the final piece in the woods before the exit.  All trail portions included in the closure are clearly marked (assuming people don't dismantle the closures).
When riding down the powerline at the end of South Main, you will need to drop down the steep hill beside the woodline and follow that back to the parking lot instead of turning right into the woods for the final 75ish yards of singletrack.

To answer Pat's question: We have land usage agreements with several neighboring land owners.  Mostly it's the Lake Loop and Carolina Thread Trail which are on private property.
East Main used to be on private property as well, but the land has now been purchased by USNWC.

Good luck with that!  The trail closure is likely to affect someone's Strava time and they will be maaaddddd!!!
