I was wondering, and I saw some, do you know of any good SOS app to use with the phone? You are alone biking and if something happens there is no way to tell where you are. Have you tried any? Suggestions?  i am truing one called Emergency Button

Haven't tried one.  But I also recommend something like the Road ID bracelet.  I'm not as worried about being alone as I am being unconscious and no one having my ID and contact numbers.

If you have a garmin it has a "live tracking" feature.  You can choose multiple people to send a link to that they can follow your ride. Not sure all models are that way though. I have the 520 model.

Also Strava has something similar called the "Beacon" that does something similar. Although I think you have to be a premium (pay $45/yr) version.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for.

Along with Strava's beacon, there's an app called Bike Computer(definitely recommended- (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)) that has a function called "keep me safe" which both sends an emergency text to chosen contacts with your location and sound a stupidly annoying and loud alarm alerting anyone near you that you took the berm way to hard and now have a knee that looks like a tomato. I've tried it out and it works great, plus it's only $8 a year

That sounded way too much like an advert so now for the bad about it, the speedometer is slow, average speed doesn't always work, the auto pause is okay but takes to long to detect, and it not super customizable.

But still, even for $8 a year its one of the best bike SOS apps I've seen. But that's just my .02¢
-Sam

EDIT: Might also want to check this out (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links). I always keep one in my wallet and roadie's saddle bag along with my NC ID.

Enhanced 911 systems (our state) can lock in on your cellphone signal and phone GPS if so equipped and get within a few hundred yards of your location.  All you have to do is dial 911.  With that said, nothing works outside of cell range, I.E. Pisgah.

My wife loaded "Find my Friends' on my phone. She can see where I'm at anytime with a push of a button.

Lets her know where I'm at, instead of texting/calling me

Do what you like. Stop hating people for their riding habits and get back to hating them for their skin color, religion, politics, and sexual orientation.

I second this.  I always have my Road ID on my wrist.  Name, emergency contact info, blood type, allergies.

It also has a free app that you can use while riding.  You can use it to create an emergency info lock screen for your smartphone.  You can also use it to text your contact when you start and when you finish.  If you are stationary for 5mins and don't disable when the warning tone comes on it will also automatically text/email your contact that you haven't moved in 5min.  Your contact can also see your whereabouts via a provided link.  It doesn't do a great job at tracking your ride from a mileage standpoint, but I never leave home without it, especially when riding off peak times when there are few if any other riders to discover my limp body!

I always ride with Road ID also.

Blood type, however, is not needed.  In the civilian world, you will never get anything but O neg that is not confirmed by a cross match at the hospital....

They have an interact one with an 800 that can be called and would be given the most updated info.  This one is good for someone that is on multiple medications that might change on a regular basis....

Haven't used it in a long time, but if I recall correctly RoadId has their own app with this feature.  It alerts saved contacts if you stop moving for more than 5 minutes I believe it is, but when you stop you can disable the timer if you are going to be stopped for a little while before resuming.

When I used it in the past it worked pretty well from what I remember.

I use the Strava Beacon Feature. Every time I ride solo I text my ride to my wife. She has strict instructions that if she sees me inactive for greater than 5 minutes to call me. If I don't answer, give my location to 911.

It's not a tracker but Bell, and maybe some other manufacturers, have the ICE sticker on their helmets. If you register it and are found on the side of the trail they can use it to contact your ICE person.
