From Dave at IMBA - there is a National Forest maintenmance grant fund available. Not sure how shovel ready the maintenance project(s) need to be but couldn't we whip up some maintenance specs for Uwharrie known trouble spots? Enouigh to hire a knowledgeable contractor to get the wet spots just before and after the second stream crossing; etc?

IMBA, in cooperation with the USFS and the National Wilderness Stewardship Alliance is co-launching the National Forest Trails Stewardship Grant Program–a $230,000 competitive grant application fund for 2017 trail maintenance projects.

The trails are extremely well built so finding trouble spots are difficult. The only places I can think of are on the first climb up Keyauwee, CW, there are a few soggy spots im sure a little of chamber trail would help but these spots are not a huge problem as far as erosion.

Could the grant be used to build new trail? I think URE is a perfect place to add some new trail that would boost travel to the area. I know a good bit of mountain bikers travel over an hour to ride there. When you look at what DuPont has to offer and compare the sizes of the forest URE is vastly larger. And Albemarle is no further from URE than DuPont is Hendersonville or Brevard.
