thinking about getting a 1Up rack for the car.

Can anyone who has one comment on the locking mechanism of theft deterrency of the system? Based on looks alone, it doesn't look crazy safe.

I know these get favorable reviews, but any other positive comments on these racks would be great!

Thanks

So there is a bolt that expands inside the hitch that holds it to the hitch.  This keeps it solidly with in the hitch so it does not rock around and keeps people from just taking the rack off.  This bolt is a special allen key designed by 1 up so you can't just go out to Home depot, buy a wrench key to fit it.

Once installed  you can use a simple bike lock cable to secure the bike to the rack.  If you want a stronger lock 1 up sells a steel pin with lock that can be inserted through the holes in the brackets that clamp the wheels.  This steel pin goes through the rim so the wheel can not be removed from the rack without some serious cutting tools.

They also sell a lock pin as extra security to hold rack to hitch

Also
1 up has great customer service if you buy directly from them.  They will look up your information to make sure you are a customer and send replacement parts if let's say you back into something, damage your rack, and need some replacement parts.  Some times they don't even charge.

I have the 1 1/4" to 2" convertible version and once you use the special Allen key to tighten the rack in place you can insert a padlock in front of the Allen bolt. So even if someone has the special Allen key they wouldn't be able to access the bolt.

Are all the keys the same that secure it to the hitch?
