All,
This will my first 4-hour endurance race. With a start time of 9:30 it seems the cut-off for last lap at 12:15 to be a little early.  I think it should be 12:45 (at least).  Is this normal for a race billed as a 4-hour race? (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
Thanks.

if my math is right that means we will have to run 54.91 min laps to get back by 12:15 to start a fourth lap.

There is no right answer, either you are not allowed to go out after a set time, or like the Southern Endurance races, you have to finish by a specific time. Usually it's set to make sure they don't have to find someone dying in the woods and start breaking down the course in a timely manner.

I once swept the course as a volunteer during our six hour race and the guy that went out at 5:59 totally should have called it quits. That was a longggg ride.

Or 40 to do 5. Cheesy

What is a good lap out there now?

And yeah that does seem kinda early.

I wish they'd have set the cutoff at 12:30. 40 min laps will be at the razors' edge- like a 14 mph average.  I am thinking more like 45 min laps here, which would be a 4 lap affair for me. Kinda makes the 4 hr race an effective 3.

45 would be 10:15-11:00-11:45 miss 12:15 cut for 4 so 3 total
40 would be 10:10-10:50-11:30-12:15 so 4 total.
someone correct me on my math becuase it seams short

You just need to start before 12:15 to get the last lap in.
45 min laps= 4 laps
40 min laps= 5 laps (so long as you make it in on the 4th before 12:15).

The last lap time has been changed to 1:15.
JJfitfest website will hopefully be changed in the next hour to reflect this.

There always has to be one in every crowd.

I don't know you but if I bonk on the last lap, I'll find you Smiley

Its the same course as the Treeshaker.

Best times out there last year for that race were in the low 40's. There were only 70 racers and the trail was very fast that day. Looks like about 2X the racers for this race and its been a little wet, so I'd say its going to be a little slower.

With the cutoff at 1:15 pm:
You have to average 55 minute laps to get out for a 5th lap.
If you are really good and can do under 45 minute laps consistently you'll be doing 6, which is about 55 miles

I'm riding Springs this morning, I'll post what the trail conditions are like.

Trail is in great shape. There were quite a few people pre-riding the course.

Ride fast, take chances....

Fantastic event yesterday. Trails rode very well and lap times were pretty impressive. Top guys were running 38 to 39 min laps. Really great to have the chance to ride with that group, both local and imported talent, but kind of humbling as well.

As a side note, as I was finishing my last lap, and trying to forget the feeling that my legs were going to fall off, the thought occurred to me that having 130 riders run up to 6 laps on the new Schoolhouse west trail really did a nice job of packing the trail down. Could it be a new trail building trend?

First time riding Anne Springs and holy crap, that place is fast as hell. Makes racing it even that much harder!

38 min lap times?!  Wow...that's super-human.
Was Sugar Island part of the course?  Is the new section officially opened yet?

Excellent vid...

Glad you are enjoying the flick, always hard to find good videos of the local trails in this area, I only included the exciting moments on the video when I was close enough to follow someone!

Those tater tots may be part of my fuel for endurance races going forward Wink

Nice vid, Pearl. You'd have seen that other line if we pre-rode the course the other day instead of hitting SB Smiley

Was great fun.

I raced in solo SS - and, had my butt handed to me...!

It was a great event overall. My two youngest boys loved the Spartan Kids race.

It can be done. But you can't just take the embed code from youtube and do it(have to modify)

Who was the old guy holding you up in that video? Undecided

It's been a year or so since I last rode/raced at Springs.

Pleasantly surprised at the super flowy improvements.  Made for a super fast, super fun race.

I thought it was a great event, the trail was in great shape, & weather.  I was able to put in 5laps & place 18th overall, that NASCAR guy, Jimmie Johnson, edged me out with a 17th finish  Grin

Already looking forward to next year and getting more people out to the event  Smiley
