Lots of beer seems to be the general theme of the sport.

My attention span is that of a 3 year old. I can't stand watching that long as a general rule. We were given those race radio scanner earphone thingys one time. That was awesome. Would highly recommend doing that. You get an inside look at the driver/pit crew chatter. Some of it is highly entertaining.

Earplugs and watch the people in the stands getting drunk. It is hilarious.

Ear plugs are a must... spend the extra coin and rent a scanner it will make the race much more fun to watch.

2nd this, regardless of the cost.  MEGA loud, so communicating is a challenge for the entire race, except during the cautions.  Having the headset will provide hearing protection, and give you something to listen to.  You can switch between cars to hear what the drivers are saying, which can be interesting at times.  I'd still wear earplugs under the headset...

Might want to bring sunscreen, too.

Recommend the deep-fried Twinkie.  Oreos aren't bad either, just don't let them add all that powdered sugar, it's disgusting and unhealthy.

Sunscreen for sure! You can bring a cooler in but I believe it can be no larger than 12 inches in any dimension...it might be 14 inches so I would google it.

I usually bring my shooting ear muffs that have the noise cancellation electronics in them, but you need some sort of ear protection no matter what.

And this is my personal favorite part....dress as rednecky as you want to! It is really fun!

I would have to be stone cold drunk to watch a bunch of guys who think they are athletes turn left all day.  Never have understood the attraction of NASCAR.  And don't get me started on them not being able to race in the rain.

Get there early and tailgate. Any parking lot will do. Walk around and socialize everyone is usually friendly and you'll meet some great people.

Yea. While I don't really care to watch NASCAR races that much, the driver's and pit crew are every bit of an athlete.  Trying riding with Jimmie sometime. Wink

It's a sport for the smaller statured man to do professionally
Not every man can play pro football. I saw Carl Edwards riding the Itusi about 10 years back. I asked him to do a back flip off his bike, but he would not oblige

Sorry, while I will agree that sitting in a hot car for hours takes a good bit of fitness and stamina, turning left all days doesn't qualify as an athlete in my book.  I know it's just my opinion and many disagree.  I also find it laughable that they don't race in the rain.  Indy cars and MotoGP bikes have a higher horsepower/weight ratio and race rain or shine unless it's wicked wet.

Indy doesn't race on ovals in the rain, ever.

F1 doesn't race on ovals.

NASCAR races on road courses in the rain.  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

The drivers have to stay in shape and not weigh too much. There's only a little space in the car for them to be menoverable. That's why I really didn't have anything against Danica Patrick. Women being of smaller stature are perfect for stock car racing. Although the big Burley NASCAR fan only wants.to root for what most of them referre to as wimps. Go figure Roll Eyes

Indy cars won't race an oval in the rain..... NASCAR will run a road corse event in the rain.... cup cars make more power..... have a fraction of the downforce, much smaller tires and weigh a whole hell of a lot more....ya can't recognize these key differences solidfies the fact you do not know much about racing.

Okay, so you guys can all agree that I don't give two craps about NASCAR.  Each of you who shakes his head at my statement must be a fan and I don't begrudge you for that.  I'm not ignorant of the differences and my statement about the drivers is just my opinion.  I'm sure there are many other sports in which many people have differing outlooks on whether the participants are athletes or not.  Now, lets just go riding.
