Renaissance Park Construction - Trail Destruction

Anyone know what is going to become of the Renaissance Park trails? The back half of the main trail has been freshly bulldozed over and the entire short track has surveyor stakes throughout most of it. There was a sign in the kiosk showing 'this area closed for construction' which looked to encompass the entire short track and the begining of the main trail - basically everything behing the parking lot to the edge of what was the park property.

I have a pic of the current damage but its too big for the forum. I'll try to get it posted later.

Sounds like they are beginning the stream restoration project back in there.  We knew it was going to happen eventually but didn't know exactly when.  Guess it's "when".

This is the first bridge after the downhill and table jumps at the beginning of the main trail.

Not that I am fast enough to partake...but wonder how that affects the Wednesday night and short track races?  (the other side is solid)
For that matter- when do you use "effect" and "affect" - think I need to go back to school... Shocked

You used it correctly. "Affect" is a verb, and "effect" is a noun.

The effects of closing this half of Renaissance are devastating to the local mountain biking community. Trail closures affect other trail users as well.

Sorry - English professor.

I was disappointed when we lost more than half of the "softball loop" several years ago (remember wussy hill?) Now, there's really nothing worth riding on that side. The "tennis loop" is good, but at only 3 miles or so I don't think I'll be making the trip out there. But, like Cycle Path has said, we've always known that those sections of trail weren't park property and that sooner or later they'd be gone.

When we were out last Wednesday night, the short track course had not been touched.  Has anyone been out there in the last five days?  Is the short track course still good?  We've got the cross country race this Wednesday.

I was out there on Thursday and the trail itself was fine.  However, there are surveyor stakes throughout and several ribbons in the trees...definitely not race tape.

I'll also add that a good part of the parking lot is now taken up for construction storage, equipment, contractors offices.  Not sure how you set up the Summer series but its right over top of where the Winter Short Track series finish line was.

So i just rode what would be the XC course for the Summer Series the only spot/trail that we would be losing is about 200-300 yards. You will take that left just before the bridge. Overall the trail is in good shape other than some face slappers on the tennis court side, just keep your head up.

So bottom line, false alarm?   Huh  Just a minor loss of trail at the entrance behind the softball fields or is it total trailmageddon?

For right now just a couple hundred yards that is lost right at that bridge.

Where are you picking the main trail back up? The portion after the bulldozed section.

Was there yesterday but could not find a connection back into the main trail where the construction is.  Was it right in front of me and I missed it?   Huh
