Anyone going?  I'm thinking of going on Sat for the final races.  Admission is FREE to York county residents, otherwise it's $15 for adults.  Should be fun!

Want to see the show for free?  Then volunteer to help out via this link:

In addition to seeing some of the best bike handling in the world you'll also get a pretty darn cool shirt and hat. Lots of cross over to the MTB community in the Carolinas to cheer for as well.

We have been pretty darn lucky this year to have so many high caliber cycling events in the area. Given a choice to catch a full afternoon of racing at an Olympic caliber this Saturday or spend $15 to go to the movies I know I'll be spending my time in Rock Vegas this weekend!

The website doesn't give detailed info on race times. Does anyone know if the races are all day or if the are early in morning then stop?  I wanna go but can't get there until later in afternoon and I don't wanna waste money to see one or two races.

That's in my neighborhood! It's been a nightmare with traffic and random BMX people parking all over the place. And the announcer yelling at 8am about how "they're bunched in turn 2". But other than that it's been pretty cool. A few weeks ago we had the National Championships and that was cool to see. I'd be curious to see what some of these guys could do on a mountain bike.

The real question is, how did he make is through all the kamikaze kids on BMX bikes, oblivious pedestrians and confused drivers in the parking lot...

One should get an award for that..

They actually had some tents set up in the red mud. I guess gravel was out of the question..

How's that for some world class. Rock thrill style.  Smiley

Typical lap there is about 30-40 seconds. If you want a MTB comparison Tim Dinger would be a pretty good example. Darn fast on any bike if you ask me.

Made it out to the track Saturday night for the Elite riders.  We were standing along the fence just past turn 3 and it was one of the coolest events I have ever attended.  Between the crashes, jumps, crazy passes, transfer spots and national pride it had so much drama it kept my family jumping around and cheering all night. Not sure if they will get another World Championship any time soon but the next time a world cup race comes around do yourself a favor and check it out.

***Now comes my plug for BMX racing***

My kids started racing racing BMX last fall and it has been a blast.  Their bike skills have developed so fast they will end up being a much better mountain bike rider than I will ever hope to be.  When I first took them out to the track I thought it looked fun and easy...the track was so short and it didn't have any rocks or roots or trees.  After watching them ride for the first few months I was getting bored so I got a cruiser (24" wheels) and started to practice.  I learned a few things real quick:

First:  It was way more work than it looked.  I am not fast but I have some MTB endurance (just did ORAMM for the 3rd time) and my legs were burning when doing a full lap at the track.

Second: If you get sloppy you go down hard....and those tracks hurt when you are in your late 40s.

Third:   It is sooooo much fun.  I am hooked...

Fourth:  It has changed my mountain biking for the better.  I honestly see the trail different now.  I pump everything I can (rocks / roots etc) and look for the tiniest slopes to use as berms.  I used to think I did that stuff but now it is second nature and makes riding way more fun.

***If you or your kids were ever interested you should check out one of the local tracks.  It is a great sport and I would love it to see some more growth.

I grew up racing bmx in the early 80's... without a doubt, 95% of the skills I have on a mtb come from those formative years.
