Suggestions for a good campsite near Asheville?

I'm meeting my parents up near Asheville and we'd like to make a camping trip out of it for me and my family.  We're looking for something that would be an easy drive into Asheville, yet still some what in the woods.  I'm open to primitive camping but with my young girls it could also be fine to be in a campground with bathrooms.

Any good recommendations out there?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Dave

Lake Powhatan is right next to Bent Creek and about 20 minutes from Asheville. Nice facility

KOA east and Mama Gurties. Both are smack in the middle of Black Mountain and Downtown Asheville. To get to Asheville from those places, it's about a 10 mile drive to Asheville.

Thank guys,  I've read about both Mama Gerties and lake Powhatan.  Both had a mix of reviews which you can never tell which ones to rely on.  So thank you for giving these your thumbs up.

Out trip isn't for another couple of weeks, so we're still open to suggestions.

Thanks again,

There's the Bears Den. I've never stayed there. But they always end up my search. If you don't mind a little drive, there's a couple in Brevard, Davidson River, Black Forest, Ash Grove. If you want to bike, the bike farm is hip. They have a little on site trail and a pump track. Also a direct trail to the Turkey Pen area of Pisgah. My only beef with them, is port a johns and cold showers. The KOA west is good, but not as many amenities as the East one. If you don't need electric, Lake James has a really nice tent campground. I have only drove through it. But it's almost brand new, and always seems to be full. It's within walking distance of the swimming beach. Which is also real hip

I won't be bringing the bike on this trip, its all family time. My parents are coming in from staying in eastern Tenn, so I want to stay closer to Asheville or west of there so my folks don't have to drive much farther.

We've camped near Brevard multiple times, just stayed at Mills River.  We have done Davidson River, which was pretty good, for a campground.
I hope to hit the Bike Farm eventually but I'll save that for a guys trip.

The more I read about the Lake Powhatan area the more I like it.  There are a lot of reviews about the host being a bit difficult, but I can't see having a problem with just our family there.
