To whomever it was in the red jersey heading downhill on the Tunnel trail towards the Prairie loop about 10am today, that about ran me over as I was climbing in the opposite direction...
Did you know this was a 2-way trail?

I had a similar incident today with a guy going the wrong direction on the prairie loop. I had my head down going up hill and look up to see a guy flying right at me.  I think they need some signage out there that's more visible indicating direction. I've seen lots of people going the wrong direction on paradise and prairie.

Isn't the Prairie Loop multi-directional?

I haven't run into anybody on a bike going the wrong direction on Paradise.. Yet.

Don't see how that's possible, unless they can't read or don't bother. The direction of travel is clearly marked.

The Tunnel trail is clearly marked as a two-way trail. But I keep running into guys heading towards Prairie that don't get it.

I think part of the problem with Tunnel trail is, guys get used to hauling butt on Paradise since it's one direction, then don't bother to read the sign. Doesn't help that at the junction Tunnel trail is straight and you've got to bear right to stay on Paradise. I suspect some newer types may think they're still on Paradise.

I haven't seen any markings on Prairie indicating a required direction.

Prairie is bi directional. Paradise isn't.  I do think they need to go ahead and make it all uni directional as its confusing.

There are a couple of places that right or wrong are designed to be fast. Smooth it out, widen it and point it downhill and you can expect guys to go fast. I also think there are some "new to anne springs" riders recently that don't have the necessary awareness to keep this safe. You can go fast and still be in control enough to slow down when another rider is approaching nut if you aren't expecting them it's harder.

There is no specified direction on Prairie Loop unless they have changed a years old policy in the last week. If you ride that stretch, please keep your head up and look for riders coming the other way.

I don't think its that confusing, particularly on Prairie. Maybe better IE larger signage would help.

There is no way, right now, to make the whole trail one direction anyway. That stretch you mention where Paradise and Tunnel are has to be ridden both ways in order to complete a loop. The only way to alleviate that is with more trail building, which I don't think is happening in that stretch.

At this time there are only 3 trails- Paradise and Avery Loop and the Tunnel trail. They are all clearly marked as one direction or bi-directional. You must always be on the lookout for mtb racers who are only thinking about themselves.

"Or did you think this was a closed race course?"

Speaking of this, I don't see how they can run the Tree Shaker this year with the current trail configuration. That section isn't wide enough for a pack of racers going both ways on it, it would be super tight and you'd need to tape it all up......not ideal at all

You may not, but clearly folks on here don't even know it's bi-directional.  I think most would agree the bi-directional nature of springs has been both a blessing and a curse.  The variety of riding essentially different trail by riding both ways is shadowed by the danger of riders coming at each other.

Today there is definitely a small section that can only be 2-way, but all loops could be clockwise or counter-clockwise.

You say folks, but it was only person that didn't know Prairie was bi-directional, every one else was chiming in that they knew it was. Change the rules based on that? How about we stress that there is signage on the trail that tells people what to expect.

Honestly, people just need to read the signs and alwaysalwaysalways keep your head up.

You and I both ride that trail a lot, we're both on single speeds, I've even talked to you a few times. You are younger and faster than I am. How often have you had issues with riders coming the other way? I've had less than 10 in 8 years riding there, and I am usually there about once a week. That's a really small percentage for me, maybe your experience is different though. I just don't think its needed

I've almost had two collisions in two weeks heading inbound on the Tunnel trail..

Maybe I'm just lucky.

There's a particular fast, twisty section heading towards Prairie with limited visibility and tight trees.

When I see somebody coming I've gotten in the habit of stopping and getting completely off the trail, even though I'm the uphill rider. That's the only way to prevent a collision or keep the downhill guy from steering off into the woods. It's really annoying to have to constantly scan this section for too fast out of control riders.

Most of them look at me when going by as if they didn't expect to see an opposing rider at all. At all...

That's why I think some may not read signs, or may not be aware they've gotten off the Paradise trail.

When I'm riding that section I know it's bi-directional so I always factor that into my speed calcs. For me time/speed is irrelevant. If I want to run time trials or race, I'll enter one on a closed course.

True, the only way to make the whole thing unidirectional is to build another section of the Tunnel trail heading inbound (towards the rec center).

That sucks.

I really think they made a mistake when they made Paradise directional. To sagers points now there may be confusion as to what is what and f people think something is directional they will ride it faster because they don't think anything is coming.

Should have left the whole thing multi
