Could Have Been Worse

After years of trying I finally broke the rear triangle on my 2008 GF HiFi DLX yesterday on Ridgeline @ DuPont. Both sides of the chainstay snapped near the dropouts only held together by about 5mm of aluminum on one side. I was able to ride out but the triangle is toast. Anyone have experience finding replacement for a frame that old?

Bummer!

I don't think I would put any money toward a 10 year old used rear triangle. Any that you find would be in questionable condition at best.

Given your bike is a decade old might be a good time to start thinking about upgrading to something more modern you can keep for another 10 years...

Bikes have come a loooooong way over the last 10 years and your riding could benefit from modern geo, standards, etc.

Otherwise I'd look at a complete frame in good shape and swap the parts over.

Trek products have a lifetime frame warranty, if you are the original owner. It used to cover the rear triangle eons ago. Not sure if that is/was still the case in 08 or today. Might be worth a shot if you bought it new. Otherwise, I'd spring for a new or lightly used bike and hang that one up

Now' is a great chance to justify 'test' rides of all types of new bikes.

I JUST went thru a broken frame to new bike replacement - Couldn't be happier.  The test ride in Pisgah sold me on it. Then the hunt for the actual one to buy.
