Who's riding on an artificial hip?

So at 64, I am getting a new artificial hip next month. One of the few things I can do for exercise now that doesn't hurt too much is cycling. Still ride regularly, but have had to reduce mileage a bit. Yesterday I went and rode at the WWC, since I hadn't been this year and had the goal of riding there before the surgery. I am sore but happy today Cool. It does play on my mind, though, that at my age I might end up confined to road biking or greenway riding once I recover. Not sure if I'm ready to accept that.

Are there folks out on the board who've had hip replacement surgery? What has your recovery experience been? How much and where can you ride now?
Thanks!

I'm 51 with 2 artificial hips, had both done in the last 2 years, first one was a breeze ( @ 49 ) second one not so much, mostly because the second one crumbled last August 16th ( my 50th birthday on a damn road ride ) I was on a walker for 3 month's before the surgery with caused major back problems. I did the therapy and all that but with this second one after 8 weeks I started back too the gym and riding a little, big mistake. I've been riding in the woods since 1988 just can't stop................BUT I still ride as much as I can, just dont push it anymore and I'm slow as molasses but I dont care, at least I'm riding...........my knee's are next.

I have a very good friend who has had his replaced twice. He is slowing down because of age (72) but still rides 16 to 25 miles two or three days a week. His on his 3rd or 4th bike since the late 90's.  He rides desert mostly with climbs and switchbacks but can school ya on riding in the Southern Rockies in New Mexico and Colorado. We rode the White Rim pulling BOB trailers in 2003 on his first set of hips. No rode bike for him! Smiley
He can still sit a horse and work cattle.

Nothing wrong with the way Scott_T rides.
He's plenty fast when he wants to be.

The rat race belongs on I-77.   Cool

Yeah, I've been mt biking since the early 90s, don't want to give it up. I'm finding encouragement here, that's good.
I took a buddy who was 67 at the time to Tsali last year. He's given me something to shoot for.
What crumbled on your 2nd replacement, attachment of bone to implant or the joint itself??

Yow! Guess I'll wait awhile to ride outdoors post-op.
Still, you're riding well now! So, I'll be powering up all the climbs at RRT next year? Not that I can now... OK, maybe I'll just hope that getting off & on the bike won't be so painful next year, that'll be a good start.
Thanks for the positive stories.

I'm now 13 weeks out from total hip replacement. Yesterday I took a cycling class for the first time; had been doing stationary bike, PT, and swimming. That went fine, so with the weather so nice today, I threw my road bike in the car and drove it to Providence Country Club for flat roads.
Got in 12.5 mi, and felt great. Best Christmas present I could have!
Now, if it gets dry and warm in January, maybe Beatty will happen Smiley!
