Statesville has a relative new trail..... BIG LEAF.  So, now what is the status of the old trail, Signal Hill?  Is it still maintained...if so by who... is it rideable? what is the plan for it etc?  Anyone know?  I remember that it had a lot of features made of wood years ago.

Yes Signal Hill is still being maintained! In fact it has a brand new trail coordinator who is doing a fabulous job getting all the vegetation cut back. For some reason that trail in particular has lots of vegetation that grows like crazy so it's a constant project. If you are interested in getting involved with the trail work there please let us know....he would most definitely appreciate the help!

Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.

The last time I rode there, maybe a year, maybe two. A lot of the wood structures had begun to rot and deteriorate. And then they were built up with dirt. I'm thinking that they should just get rid of all the wood fest. I fell off one of the ladder bridges, and cut my leg open. A lot of those features need constant care. But I did see many Trailblazers have been out there addressing the trail. Big Slopes is cool, but gets a bit over grown in the warmer weather

I have been the trail coordinator at the Salisbury Community Park Trail for 5 years, so I'm already busy doing trail work.  The reason for the post was that I am at the Salisbury trail often (ride and/or work) and in general conversation I am occasionally asked about the two Statesville trails which is 25 minutes from Salisbury...... we all like to ride different trails.  I did not know the status.  A friend stopped riding there because of the growth.  He likes the BIG LEAF trail but will not ride there either because there are approx 8-10 places that have grown up with thick weeds etc.  He is highly sensitive to poison ivy and refuses to ride anywhere that has growth on the trail that forces the rider to go thru tight bushy areas.  Note that those weeds could be removed with a little weed eater work.  Other than that, the trail is great.

You need a ton of Deet to get through Big Leaves in the summer. A thouro tick check is also in order. What is it with landfills and Statesville trails😕

Are the wooden structures still on the trail? What about those ladder bridges? There was once a cut through to avoid them. The highest ladder bridge had a little jump at the beginning. If you hit it just right, the bridge would throw you into the bush. I was thinking of checking the trail out again. But I am afraid of said ladder bridges
