WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE IT WORK

Thinking of getting a DT SWISS M1700 wheelset but I realized it notes 11sp cassette body. I have a 10sp cassette. My question is will I need a spacer to make my 10sp cassette work? I'm guessing 11sp cassette is much wider compared to a 10sp cassette hence you might need the spacer. Next question is which one and how many. Currently have a Shimano HG62 11-36, 10 speed.

I believe Shimano 11 speed and 10 speed freehub bodies should be the same, SRAM 11 speed freehub bodies are different than 10 speed.  I'm sure I will get corrected if I have mis-spoken  Cool

You should be able to space it out with the spacer going on between the hub and the cassette on the freehub....

From Boyd Wheels...

"So, if you are running a Shimano 10 speed cassette on an 11 speed hub, you will need the 1mm spacer provided with the Shimano 10 speed cassette PLUS a 1.8mm spacer to make up for the added width of the 11 speed freehub body. If you are running a Sram 10 speed cassette, there is no 1mm spacer needed behind the cassette."

Sounds like the Shimano 10spd and 11spd casettes are different widths but the SRAM ones are not?...

Good luck!

I have an 11spd hub body on my road bike wheelset and use a 10spd cassette.  I just have to use the spacer BP referenced.  No issues.  Works great.  My cassette is also Shimano fwiw.

Can anyone confirm this?
Hate to get both if I don't need it.

Using 10-Speed cassette on 11-Speed hub body

This is the one I have.

The first one you posted (I believe) is the spacer that goes in between the cogs on the cassette.

Thinking of getting a DT SWISS M1700 wheelset

Oddball question unrelated to your problem but maybe towards your "order"  ;]

1. For your rotors, do you need 6 bolt or Center Lock/spline mount?
2. Is your fork 100x15mm through axle?

I have a M1700 wheelset that came with my bike in March with minimal miles and for some odd ball reason the front is 6 bolt and the rear is Center Lock/spline.
100 x15mm Front Hub; 148x12 BOOST Rear Hub w/ XD Driver, centerlock
I would just like them to match...

The proposition is if you needed 6 bolt, I could buy a new wheel and sell you the old 6 bolt front.  Or I could "contribute" some cash to your order for you to get the spline front and I would trade you for my 6 bolt plus the "contribute" cash.  (whatever you prefer)

Weird, I know, but figured I would throw it out there.  Ill PM you my info if you are at all interested to entertain this far out proposition?  (and even farther on if the stars align and you even need my configuration) ;]

================================

On a contribution front, I like the M1700s.   I was actually thinking I was going to replace them rather quickly for something lighter.  Looking up the specs they arnt too bad, and pretty darn stable so far.  (not a lot of miles again...)

Shimano MTB 11spd and 10spd freehub bodies are the same.  Shimano Road 11spd and 10spd freehub bodies are not.
