Recycling Bike Tires

I have a few worn tires that are sitting in my garage that I am looking to dispose of.  I was wondering if bike shops have a certain disposal method that doesn't lead to stacking more tires in a landfill somewhere.  Could I bring my tires by a shop to recycle/dispose if tires in a more environmentally friendly way?

I have a bunch of 26" tires that have little to no miles on them...  26" Panaracer 2.1.  I'll take beer for cash.  they are $35'ish tires...
They are not recycles...  New low mileage tires for beer.

Many of the bikes we used this weekend at a Trips for Kids event in Virginia are in need of replacement (26") tires. Can't promise any beer, but expect some good karma from a donation to the recyclery. Oh, BTW, we just received a $5000 grant from TFK to help fund the Beatty pump track project...just sayin.

I assume you don't have much need for 29' tires?

"True... there is waste and environmental costs generated from everything... but you can choose to spend your $$ on things that dont have such a large negative impact on the environment...

Same reason I dont ride carbon bikes anymore and dont run any carbon components. And I try to use "naturally" sourced lubricants, sealants, de-greasers etc.

That and I am a stupid hippie who composts, buys local, recycles everything, and reuses as much as I can.

RRR!"
