New Carolina Thread Trail Return Route.

The new return route which makes the Carolina thread a 99% one way loop is pretty darn cool.  It has a significantly different feel than the outbound portion and it’s also much more difficult from a climbing perspective.  Plus it’s still soft right now.  Once it gets packed down it should be smoother and more consistent. Good job again to all those that helped.  BTW, does anyone have a new distance for the new full Thread Trail?

I didn't ride it this weekend; is the trail entrance / exit pretty clear or do you have to look for it?

I didn't notice the new trail return right away. When you get to the end of the thread trail where there is that small loop/turnaround at the road, the new return trail will be to your right. Definitely felt different and has a bit more climbing than the rest of thread, but the shaping and features will be a lot of fun once the dirt is packed in.

Strava showed the return being about 1.5 miles and the whole second half loop was showing to be 2.8 miles.

I was out there Saturday morning and saw some dirtbikes in the woods.  I didn't see them on the trails, but not sure if they got on once I went by.

The adjacent property on the left side of the new return section is supposedly owned by a motocross kind of dude.
If you follow the thread trail past the end and up the hill towards the road (past the new return entrance) there is a little cut the goes up and to the right into the woods... if you peek in there you can see a bunch of cool trails...  I believe they are motocross trails and not for MTB.

I can confirm the adjacent property is owned by a motocrosser.  The folks who ride his trails are respectful of the MTB trails, and they ask that cyclists respect their trails as well.  I don't know what kind of deal he and Wise struck, but it is (or was) his property on which the Thread return was built.  It's my understanding that the usnwc trail crew even did work to reroute his MX trials in areas where the new MTB trail cut through.  I know he's a cool guy....one who had shared my goal of policing against unauthorized ATV's.....and now, somehow or another, his property has become part of the mtb trial system.
I noticed there's a spot where his trails and the mtb trails are side by side, with only some sticks piled up in between, which will surely entice folks to go exploring.  I'd implore cyclists not to venture onto his side of the property.  He's always cooperated with usnwc and the cycling community, and he doesn't want to have to worry about creaming someone with a MX bike on his private property.

A tip for determining who should and who should not be out there on motorized vehicles:  The property owner and his friends who utilize the property all race MX and when they ride they wear all the protective gear and whatnot.  As well, they only ride MX bikes.  Anyone in normal clothes, or riding a 4-wheeler or side-by-side is not authorized.  I've run countless folks off the property in the past.  If these folks know that any cyclist who sees them will take action then they'll be less likely to come around.  If you feel like you can, tell them to leave.  If you can't, call it in to usnwc and at least let them know there are ATV's on property.

Dang.  Almost feels like I'm working on behalf of usnwc again.  Gotta watch that, or either get back on the payroll.

Agreed... and good points about exploring... my comment was to let MTB riders understand that thre are MX riders allowed in that area and MTB folks should understand that and know where trail boundaries are.

Always be mindful of property boundaries.

This is an old map but

The Northern most trail on the map.  It no longer looks like this.  Its more of a figure 8 now which is confusing because their is already a figure 8 loop.

Perhaps the WWC should consider posting signs about the new trail. Didnt see anything when I rode it recently.

I haven't seen signage for the new section yet... I suspect it is coming this weekend.

Rode the thread trail this evening... They have finally dealt with the sisters... the two mud holes on the way out...  efing fantastic.  The new re-route is perfect.

THANK YOU WWC trail gnomes.

I for one think that the new trail gnomes have done a FANTASTIC job of fixing and MAINTAINING the trails in the past 4 months.  If you feel otherwise you need to pay attention.  They have religiously started clearing drains... and working to reroute the water flow to prevent future problems.  There is still a lot of neglect to address but I am feeling more and more confident every time I ride that the new crew will address a lot of the sloppy $hit that has ruled the trails in the past 3 years there.

The past three years have been about expanding the current trail mileage with out regard to  maintaining the existing trails.

It's as if this was totally Lee's idea to ignore the maintenance and push for more miles, more miles, more miles.  Makes sense.

Yeah, safe to assume Lee was the evil leader of this charge because... your opinion is "well informed?"

Mebbe chat with someone before spreading your conjecture.

Huh

There's a well established pattern of uninformed mouthing off from this guy. I assume "ChosenOne" was a self-appointed moniker.
