I never said Lee was the problem.. but hey.. keep piling on.

This:

"the sloppy $hit that has ruled the trails in the past 3 years there."

You may not mention Lee, but saying that $hit was sloppy during his tenure (while building more mileage than we've ever seen in such a short amount of time) doesn't give him the respect that he's due.

And the management at the top that wanted more miles while not allowing for man hours towards maintaining the trails that are already there?

Still in place.

It was sloppy.  Look at the number of days the trail was closed after rain in the past several years.
today the trails are barely closed 24 hrs because they have cleared most all of the drains and fixed the long standing water problems.

This totally isn't about Lee but if you want to make it about Lee that is fine w/ me.  He was the man in charge of the trails... even though I know his hands were tied.
The new crew has done a fantastic job and you cannot deny that is a fact.

How can you deny the fact that the main focus at WWC over the past 3 or 4 years has been on more mileage which came at the expense of quality train maintenance.

I guess my experience has been different and to me you are making mountains out of mole hills when you talk about how horrible the trails were once maintained.  After a rain the trails closed until it was determined by the people who control the trail access that it was ok to ride again.  Big deal.  That is just part of a sport that takes on natural terrain.  And I don't know you so I won't presume but have to ask:  do you volunteer/do trail work and have you ever built or maintained a trail?  If not, honestly I can understand how you would feel entitled to give your opinion of trails from a rider perspective.  Anything beyond that though, like commentary on where the workload fell short or why you think others would take your critique of decisions to expand, maintain or destroy current sections of trail is odd.  If you just ride then stfu and say thanks to the people that are making that possible for you.  Not your place to play politics.

Lee - thank you for all your dedication and hard work to make WWC what it has become.

Let me start off by saying I have to agree with SirNotAppearing on the assessment of ChosenOne; but I do agree with his initial assessment.

I also ride WWC a ton, and when Lee left you could tell they put in some effort to fix long standing issues.  Regardless of it was the fact that cyclofest was coming up; or because there wasn't anyone to properly guide trail expansion, they most definitely addressed long term problems such as the mud holes on thread; the vine that slaps you in the face at bottom of oyster bed; the overgrowth on lake loop, etc, etc.  Unfortunately I rode there last night as can see that starting to taper off a bit.  I don't think there was anything wrong with your message up until the last sentence, that was where you went from an opinion to an insult which has gotten you the negative feedback.

We have no insight to what Lee was dealing with; maybe it was his employees, everyone does what they are supposed to the first stent of a new crew leader.  The fact is he has created some of the best trail in the area; he (and every other single trail coordinator) deserves respect whether you agree with his trail maintenance / building or not.

Also agree with JasonK regarding his opinion... Whether its money from paying the parking pass fee or from local taxes every single person who lives in the area has contributed in one way or another for the trails, probably even before they were bikers.  While not the exact same it's kinda like saying since you didn't pave a road you have no right to say you would like a repaving; a stop sign, a traffic light etc.  I firmly believe you are entitled to your opinion from a rider perspective.  Now what you are NOT entitled to is hypocrisy.  If you aren't picking up a shovel helping out then by all means express your opinion or concerns - but don't do it in a way that attacks, belittles, or insults those who are.

Finally - thank you to all that have went above and beyond by putting in their selfless hours to maintaining and upgrading the trails so we all have somewhere to ride!

I finally got a chance to ride all of the thread trail and I like it just fine. It was nice to finally ride something I helped on even though it sat dormant for a few months. I guess we will all have to see how things go moving forward. From what I learned from working at the WWC is maintenance was kinda put on the back burner and new trails were the focus. We did have a small but great group of trail gnomes but they all had better opportunities elsewhere. I cleaned a ton of drains and cut back a lot of overgrowth. I would have liked turning it into a full time gig but I saw some things that kinda turned me away from that choice.
Thanks to Lee, Justin, Cam for allowing me to work with you and cut new trails. One last thing is the staff that I worked with were also moved around to other jobs at the center when they were needed. So that cut into trail maintenance and construction. 2 people can only get so much done. Thanks Lee for your time while you were there.

So to change the topic a little.  I rode the loop for the first time the other day.  I like it, but thought the flow might be better if it was ridden Counter Clockwise.

Thoughts....

I was really surprised to see it going clockwise.  I think I can see why they did it that way,  merging into the tail end of Academy, which makes it harder to accidentally ride it backwards.  If they did do it counter-clockwise there would constantly be people riding it in reverse by accident just because it's the way they're used to going.  The way they did it hides the exit a bit, so you only see one option.

However, I'm sure they'll want to use that mileage for races, so it seems they would want to loop it counter-clockwise to avoid the trail crossing itself.  Of course, I also assume they'll just run it backwards during races if that works better.  There were several races which reversed East Main for that same reason.

Blasphemer...

Just kidding...    Cheesy

The hive mind is big here.

All of my criticism is directed at WWC management... not the gnomes who worked there. Reread my posts without your confirmation biases.
To me it feels like WWC mgmt. has turned a corner when it comes to trail maintenance.

Hopefully someday they will open up the possibility for outsiders to help maintain the trails... when they do I will absolutely volunteer my time to help out.

Until then Knibb high Football RULES

Thanks to all my fanboys for checking in.

Until they allow outside help we always need help at other trails in the area. If you are so inclined to help out and get your hands dirty. Blisters on your palms from trailwork are a lot better than on your fingertips from typing and I sleep better at night knowing I gave back.

Rode this the other day for the first time and now i'm a bit confused on riding direction. From what I can tell the first part of the thread trail (where you access off figure 8 to the right) is counter-clockwise, but the newest section (accessing from Academy) is clockwise? Meaning you ride out on the old trail and back on the new? Is that right?
