Anyone done the SnowTubing in NC/Hawksnest?

My wife and I were thinking about taking our daughters tubing this weekend up at Hawks Nest.  I'm reading up on it and finding mixed reviews.  On top of the reviews the weather looks to be iffy at best.

Have any of you been to Hawks Nest?  Can you tell me how your experience went?
Its calling for both snow and rain on Saturday, but not sure its worth the drive up.

Thanks in advance for the help,

I was a snowmaker for the snowtubing park at Hawksnest during the winter of 09-10.  The runs are longer compared to the snowtubing options at Sugar and Beech mtn.  I would check their webcam to get an idea of conditions, not sure how any of the other facilities up there are there days (lodge, etc.)

Twill- I've never hit the hills in NC with the man made snow, so going with warmer weather doesn't make sense to me. how does the snow and tube runs hold up in warmer weather?  What about rain?  Saturday is showing 80% chance of snow turning to rain.

Hawksnest does a good job.  Do check the webcam and website for conditions.  I find the snow is fastest late in the day.

if the snow is bad, they have ziplines that run all winter. I went up there to tube a couple of years back, but the tickets were all sold out. I saw more folks standing in lines then sliding down the hill Smiley

I've read that about it being overly crowded at times.  I was concerned about that as well.  Nothing like standing in line with a 4 & 6 year old losing patience.

We ended up not going this weekend as it looked to be too warm and possibly rainy.

I expect we'll give it a try another time.

Thanks for the info!

i've been to Hawk a few times in recent years, they do a good job w the tubing.  the ski mtn was great, but no more ski (snowboard) runs Sad

def check weather and web cams.  this past weekend may have been one of last for this
season with the warm temps we've had recently and that are expected rest of week...

i haven't been to Jonas Ridge tubing but hear good things about it too.

winterplace wv has steep runs that are epic but much longer drive to get there.

if you want a non-snow tube run that is close to Charlotte check out Crowders Mtn (GasCo yo!) (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
