electrician recommendation/ having power surges

Looking for a recommendation for an electrician.  I live in south Charlotte and over the last 4 weeks have had 2 power surges.

During the first one the lights in the kitchen got bright, the refrigerator motor got louder/sped up.  And the surge protector/power strip in the neighboring room quit working causing a strong burnt electrical smell.  When I was replacing the surge protector I found that it had been recalled for the potential to malfunction and catch fire so I thought the surge/incident was caused by the faulty surge protector.

This past weekend (4 weeks later) it happened again.  This time the appliances in the kitchen all reset, the clothes drier shut off, the furnace shut off, a lamp in the neighboring room got real bright until the bulb quit working and the electronics plugged into the new surge protector all cycled.  The hvac guy told me the control board for the zoning system in the house is dead and it blew a 5a fuse on the furnace control board.

After talking to several neighbors they haven't experienced any similar issues.  Both incidents happened in calm normal weather with no lightning.

I thought about calling Duke energy but I'm not optimistic they'll look into it. I'm thinking I probably need to get an electrician to look at the situation.  Not sure if it could be an appliance causing the issue or some sort of wiring or something else.

Anyone have a recommendation for an electrician or have any experience with this sort of issue?

You may want to call the Carolina Paranormal Society to investigate too.  Just to cover all your angles.  I bet you could barter with them as well.

How old is the house? This would be very unusual symptoms in a house built in the last 25years.
I would call Duke or whoever your utility is.
You are their paying customer and need service to investigate and confirm everything is as it should be as the service comes to your meter.  This is no cost to you. You don't have to tell them the long story to get them to check it out.
Regardless of the homes age I'd be more inclined to think it is something between the street and house and less so from your panel and within or it would not be so infrequent. Considering the HVAC, the outlets, the refrigerator you described are different independent circuits points to the utility IMO.

The house was built in 1993. The lights/devices/appliances affected have been on multiple circuits as you suspect.
I’ll try giving duke a call before I call an electrician.

Had similar symptoms in a house in NY, some voltages high, some low. Turned out to be a faulty entrance cable (goes from the meter to the breaker box), apparently there was a period of time that they were made from aluminum (bad idea).
