Allergy Mask

Hey guys  i have a question, is anyone of you riding with an allergy mask? I take Zirtec but still in this season I need to avoid most of the allergens as possible. I cover my face with a bandana and I was wondering if any of you is using a specifc mask that works well without you keeping from breathing...

Thanks

I've never used a mask but the Canker Worms will be descending from the trees pretty soon & there's no way to avoid them buggers!  BYT is particularly bad on the Marion Deihl side.  It's like a curtain of worms in some places.

Craziest thing this year. Never had allergy prior to this year. My remedy, I wore a descent clear set of safety glass..cool looking of course. That's to minimize pollen into the eyes. Then for the nose...you can go buy at walmart...nose filter...allows you to breathe while doing it's job of keeping things out. The first time I rode my nose and eyes got real runny. After the DIY...worked like a charm. Works for me might not work for you all. Also, drank Claritin and threw some visine allergy meds into the eyes before went out.  good luck...can't let them pollen keep you off the trail

I believe the NRA supports allergy masks... I could be wrong... I think I read it on the internets somewhere..

Not sure any type of mask will do anything but hinder your breathing. I think you're better off finding the right medications and finding relief on and off the trail. My allergies have been severe as long as I can remember, but have gotten worse the last few years. But the 2nd generation meds that have now gone OTC (Zyrtec, Allegra, Flonase) work wonders compared to what was available when I was a kid (Tavist or Benadryl). Nasal sprays are more effective - they're basically a steroid that goes straight into your sinuses and keeps them from acting up. My doctor put me on Flonase and Zyrtec and it makes all the difference.

Pearl's onto something as well - when I ride I usually don't even notice my allergies.

Good luck.

That is my problem as well, when I ride no problem at all when I finish asthma a go go for a couple of days. That is why I wanted to see if a mask may reduce the irritating pollen to sit on my longs and get the worst out of a nice ride.

I am on Zyrtec, yest toda's medicine are way better and you do not fall asleep. My main issue is asthma due to the pollen powder and medicine helps me but still it can be tough when there is too much pollen in the air. Again not when I ride (worst case i blow my nose) but it is the day after when the longues are irritated by the pollen.

A daily teaspoon of local raw honey is an excellent alternative to drugging yourself up. It's like an allergy shot, but tasty.
