Need some new shoes and I was wondering what other bros would recommend.  I need clipless shoes with some durability and tread for hike-a-bike moments of humility.  I don't need for them to be super light weight but I would prefer something that wouldn't get too hot in the summer and dry out or vent well.

I recently picked up a pair Sidi's new Defender MTN Bike shoes to replace the Sidi's that were stolen from my shed.

Love these shoes. The "ratchet lacing" is a huge improvement over the ratcheting buckle on my last pair of Sidis. I also really like the higher ankle protection on the crank side and the extra "chunky" tread for those hike-a-bike moments.

They are not cheap, but worth the $$ considering the durability of Sidi shoes.

Here's a link to PinkBike's review:

Do they fit true to size?  Kind of remind me of some Shimano's I was looking at.   Thanks.

I have a pair of Specialized "Rime" shoes. They are a Vibram sole and use the velcro strap. Don't remember how long I've had them but am on the 3rd or 4th set of cleats. They work well on rock and wading streams.
Have worn them in Pisgah and the desert and the Southern Rockies.
They are comfortable for me.
Walking in them is OK, and they don't clank when in a store or restaurant and seem to shed mud well enough.

Sounds like you might like the Shimano ME7.  Picked up a pair about 2 months ago.  Easily my favorite clipless shoe I’ve owned.

Without pain, I'd never know what comfort was.

Fwiw,
Ive had a pair of Giro for about two years. Very comfortble and relatively durable, but terrible for hike a bike and creek crossings.

Just picked up some shimano on clearance from jenson and much better for hike a bike.

Just my $0.02, in case that helps. Shimano ftw for me

Giro Soltero shoes... most comfortable shoes I've had thus far.  They aren't carbon but they also aren't expensive (I've seen them on sale at performance for sub 100).

Shimano M200 Torbal. Best shoes I've owned and I've had a lot.
