Stem Length understanding...

So ive noticed that stem length on newer bikes have gotten shorter over the last few years.  When a bike is designed,... Im assuming the stem length that came on the bike from the factory is design to that frame spec.
I have a 90mm stem,..5 year old bike,....is there a benefit to putting on a shorter stem?  If so why?

They have also gone to Wider Bars.  It's the combination of the wider bars with the shorter stem.

Small changes in the stem length can effect the way the bike rides and fits.

I would not change it unless your uncomfortable on your bike or unless your trying to change the cockpit completely.

Yeah...short stems with narrow bars can lead to a pretty unstable ride

Bikes are starting to go to a longer top tube to accommodate a short stem.
