Recycle Old Tires?

After 1400 miles my Specialized Purgatory and Butcher have reached the end of their service life (you can see treads through the sidewalls). They started leeching fluid through the sides at about 700 miles, but held in there. Now I need to dispose of them. How can I go about recycling them? I’d hate to see them end up in a landfill.

Are there any local programs or drop off points? Is there a shop that takes them? I have Republic Services for recycling, can I just toss them in the bin?

Bonus question: how long, on average, should tires last (trail miles)?

Trips for Kids / charlotte recyclery in NODA takes old tires and recycles them. You can drop them off during their open hours
