Bike Rack for Jeep Wrangler

Hey guys i have a Saris Freedom 2 bikes rack. Love it only problem is that I cannot open the back of my jeep as the rack is on its way. So everytime I do not use the rack i take it down. I am quite tired of this on and off so i was thinking to buy one of those racks that you mount on the spare tyre, A thule or yakima. Are they good? I had lack with a saris bone 3 (on another vehicle) in the past so I was wondering what would you suggest

Try putting the rack on the front

I have a Wrangler and a Saris EX4.  Can't open the gate very far since i have an oversized spare.  I usually just fold down one of the seats to access the rear when bike rack is on.  Not sure is a 1up will work either.

Try a drop hitch adapter which will lower the hitch enough for the tire to clear.

I have a Wrangler and use a hitch extender (allows me to open the gate some but not all the way).  I like the idea of a hitch adapter that will lower the rack - may have to check that out!

Do you think that this could work? you can rai it at 90 degree, will it sustain the weight of the bikes plus rack when in horizontal position?

I bet it would - just installed "upside down" from how it is intended to be installed.

I also use a hitch extender but bought another retaining bolt from saris to keep it tight in the hitch and drilled new holes to make it fit better.  This helps me carry 4 bikes with the oversized spare and still open the gate just enough to get 1/2 of an arm in there.

I have an older model One Up Rack. The rack actually folds downward so I can open my tailgate completely.

I am not sure if the newer models do this too, but its worth checking into.
