Ouch, walked right through it with my dog, we both got lot’s of stings. They are right in the middle of the trail about a 1/4 mile in. I would definitely avoid it!

It's that time of year when they know their days are numbered so the get all angry and want to get in 1 more sting before winter. Angry

I maintain the Tech Loop so thanks for the heads. Can you give me a better location of the nest?
Where you entered and a reference point close to where the nest is would be a big help. I can either relocate or remove the nest in the next couple days.

Relocate! Let me know when this goes down so I can stand back and watch!

I was wondering the same thing. How do you relocate a nest of angry bees?? Scott can't watch you right now because he and Josh are at Snowshoe riding.

Hello to all my friends in the Charlotte area!

Relocate is just another word for convincing them that they would prefer another trail system. Didn’t want to upset any snowflakes who might stumble across this thread. Gonna draw them a map to Snowshoe.

Nah! Send them to Sherman. It will help with the STRAVA times.

Entering from the greenway entrance closest to the water treatment plant I would say it's about 1/2th a mile in. If I remember correctly, they were just before the wooden drop.

They got me on Saturday, but I only saw the one that I destroyed after it stung me.

Maybe they heard I was coming but I did not come across any hornets or yellow jackets today. I walked 25 yards back and forth past the only wooden drop on the Tech Loop. First pass was slow just in case but never saw any major signs in the air or on the ground of a nest.

If anyone can pinpoint the location, I will make another trip and tiptoe through the forest.

ciao

Rode out there this morning, no angry bee sightings.  Possible the OP just moseyed up on them at the wrong time of day, they get angry during the late morning/afternoon and chill out post dawn and pre dusk.  Gonna go do some Van-Damage in the morning with the chainsaw.

They are definitely still around, had a few customers get multiple stings on tech loop yesterday. Had one more customer get stung in the head "not on tech loop" but couldn't pinpoint where.

Sorry my description didn't pan out!

They seem to be out and about all over the place these last couple weeks.

Thanks for the efforts to relocate!

Yeah its just tough w these creatures, to find them they have to be out and active, which is when they sting us.  No sighting is great for me, but doesn't help the midday riders....

Still active.  Ground hive is on the right hand side not far after the first uphill with narrow rocks that tend to stall people.  No more than a two minute ride from the entrance off the greenway.

Impending rain will likely get rid of them.  Keep eyes open if you ride before then.

No wonder I didn't find them. the original poster gave me direction to the wooden drop.
Sorry guys.

Now when you say not far after the first uphill after the narrow rocks are you referring to once you pass the narrow section you turn left up hill then right to downhill then its an off camber left to gradual uphill to the left turn........

Kinda sorta yeah.  I could see the wooden drop off to my left (which I rode after said bees) and open space and powerlines to my right as I was talking to the bees.
