Why don't we teach kids trail manners?

This morning I was riding the trail in Ballantyne when I stopped a new guy that was riding in the wrong direction. While we were talking a kid passed us at full speed without even caring to about out his arrival. If I had moved by a few inch just to reposition the kid might have got me at full speed. Of course I used that example to point out why it was important to ride in the correct direction Grin anyway would be nice that young ones would not use trails as the Monza Gran Prix or if they do so and they see people on the trail slower than them or standing on the side they would signal their presence shouting put.

Would require the parents to have manners to teach..  Not generally the norm on the trails in the area.

Also maybe the kids parents don't ride. I was never taught trail manners by my parents. Not because they are bad people but because I picked up mountain biking on my own by riding from the neighborhood to the trail and then back home. My dad or mom have never once been on a mountain bike trail. They did teach me normal people manners but if two people are basically standing in the trail even to this day I'm going be a jerk cause you should be far enough off the trail so I can go by at full speed and not ruin my ride while you chit chat.

Fast is fun. In general, if I stop on the trail I make sure I leave the trail completely clear for someone to rip through unless its to clear a downed tree then they can wait.

For those who assume  Wink, if you ever ridden the ballantyne trail there are 2-3 areas where the space between bushes and trail is minimal so when you have to stop the clearance is minimal.

Mountain biking law of the jungle rule #56-

When passing stopped or injured riders, walkers, or hikers, etc.., especially in places with limited visibility, ride in complete silence and like you're warming up for your next World Cup appearance.  Smiley
